Proper Cleaning of a Furnace Flame Sensor

Your video bailed me out in the middle of the recent blizzard in Buffalo. Had no heat on Christmas morning. There was a driving ban in place and it would have been days before a service technician could arrive. I followed your instructions and the heat was restored.

My furnace has 2 sensors. I cleaned mine a few years ago when my heater wouldn't stay on for longer than a minutes. It ran nearly non-stop during the Valentine week deep freeze here in Central Texas. I was lucky, I had electricity, water and gas. No outages at all for me. Some friends of mine locally weren't as lucky and some didn't have power or water for about a week.

I used a piece of foil to clean mine, it works great. And no residue afterwards!

By "make sure your power is off" do you just mean the switch on the furnace is off? Or should you shut off the power from the fuse box as well?

Appreciate the video... I'm a dumb Electrician but any way heaters been short cycling I'm positive it's flame rod, how long should I have my furnace off before cleaning the flame rod? Idk how long they stay hot for

I'm wondering if a solvent such as a throttle body cleaner would be safe to use on the flame sensor. Apparently not. Any comments?

I have a Goodman furnace and its doing the same thing, the flame comes on for a second but then turns right off. I want to try cleaning the flame sensor but I was having trouble locating it. I think I found it now but its in a really tight space that does not leave any room for a screwdriver to get through. What is the best way to unscrew that? What sort of tool should I use?

Never touch it with your hand like he did, the oils on your skin can cause a problem

Can you use sandpaper on it my furnace guy used sandpaper ive been using it like last 4 times but recently keeps going on and off after i clean it it only last couple days before it does it again
