What do I do if My HVAC System has Mold? (read description)

Mold is a scary thing to have in your home. It must be removed and these services must be sanitized. If you have porous ductwork like duct board or internally insulated ductwork it has to be replaced. Routine maintenance can hep us catch it early and prevent it with proper filtration humidity control and ventilation. UV lights alone are not enough to take care of the issue but are unfortunately the most prescribed solution.

Agreed about maintenance. However, most if not all the HVAC guys I personally know that work for different companies say the "maintenance" their jobs have them do is usually a visual inspection & if anything looks out of the ordinary then to reccomend a replacement not to repair & or & with all the greety companies in this world how can a consumer actually know if their HVAC tech actually did any maintenance without being right over their shoulder watching & asking questions? I would assume this makes the tech anxious & or annoyed because they have someone breathing down their necks.. simple answer would be to learn it yourself & maintain your own equipment.

How do you prevent this?
Don't just say "maintenance". That tells me nothing. What kind of maintenance.

I had HVAC technicians do “tune ups” every 6 months. They NEVER told me about the mold in our AC unit.
Our supply plenum was covered in mold.
*OUR HEALTH HAS SUFFERED AND THE HVAC COMPANIES DO NOT CARE*
We now suffer from Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS).

Love the YT short to help people see how poorly designed/installed and poorly maintained hvac systems can create a mold factory (especially in humid climates!) 🔥

Homeowners: That is your blower motor forcing air into your supply ducts. All the air being blown onto you comes into contact with that black mold. Maintenance is key.

Techs: Ingersoll Rand seems to have created a plastic magnet. At least the tam9’s are black. Stainless steel ftw

Every HVAC tech I know would just walk away while saying "get a mold specialist"
Useless

So much for maintenance. If you try to access the evap coil 20% of the screws won't even go back in no matter how hard you try because of the stupid design of the casing.
