I had a furnace repair man come to my house to fix my furnace which would not light. He charged me $200 and was here for 15 minutes. Told me my heat exchanger was cracked, amongst other things that needed to be replaced. He told me it would be $6000 to fix it and that I would be better off getting a new one from him. I didn’t have the money to fix or replace, so I called my uncle who is pretty handy and knew somebody in the furnace business. He was able to get a camera and verify that the heat exchanger was not cracked! He got all the parts that that guy had said I needed at wholesale and replace them for me… None of this worked. We spent three days trying to get this furnace to work and never could. Stumbled upon your video, and with the help of a $4 brush from Home Depot was able to get the furnace up and running and it has been running perfectly for the last month!! Thank you for your helpful video, it was very well done and easy to follow. I will be subscribing, and supporting your channel. Thank you for the helpful advice, I wish I had found you earlier! Thanks!

I paid $200 to have my central heating serviced. He didn't do any of this.
As the heater sometimes shut down, , his testing said that main control board was faulty. $580 price tag. Did Not replace the board.
After he left, checked YT, found your channel
I cleaned the flame sensor, and unit has not failed in 4 months.
Thank you.

Oh my gosh!!! Your instructions were so spot on!! I have a very similar furnace as the one you've shown. I had the cover off my furnace while watching your video and now I am about to dive in and clean those burners. I can see exactly what is causing my furnace to trip, the dust and rust in the exact spots you said would cause it not to ignite.
Thank you very much!!!
Your awesome!! 11-17-23

I had already cleaned the flame sensor, checked the igniter, and checked the heat limit switch with a multimeter. This video about the wings on the burners saved the day for me today. This is at least the second time Jay's videos have saved me several hundred dollars in repairs, plus I get to learn cool and useful technical stuff too. Thank you so much!

I am a retired HVAC tech, and I like to watch you explain how everything works, it brings back memories, you are a good teacher.I used to love my job, time goes so fast going from one house to next, I used to go to the house of the president of Abbott Labaratories, in Lake forest Illinois.. that had five furnaces, . and did clean and service on them every year.

Can't thank you enough for this video. Our sx had been having trouble lighting up. You could hear it trying to light the burners but would only be successful after about the 3rd to 4th try. Got up in the attic and did exactly what you suggested with the burners themselves which weren't too bad. Decided I'd go ahead and clean the flame sensor and the gas orifices as well. Put it all back together and turned it on and off twice just to be sure it was gonna work. Total success! I'm a 50-something yo female and if I can do it, anyone can. Thanks again!

Jay, your advice is invaluable. This was the perfect video for me. I had an intermittent problem of the burners not lighting. Over the years the non-lighting interval became shorter and shorter. Ultimately the furnace would go through three cycles and end up in lockout mode with the 2 light blink indicator showing lockout (Trane XB90). Ultimately cleaning the burners completely solved the problem I have endured for years! May you and your family be healthy happy and prosperous! Love you uploads!!

Great video and one of the best quality ones! Have a dual HVAC w. Propane and heat pump where the heat pump is ineffective below 35F outside temp and the gas side was not firing up when got cold. A technician asked $400+ to clean or replace the burners plus parts and could not get to it for weeks. Watched the video to clean the burners and the HVAC fired up right away warming the house fast while was 20F outside. Propane gets the burners dirty faster than NG so have to keep them clean. Thanks a lot for the video.

I just want to say "Thank You"!! I have spent the last 3 Winters and about $300 trying to figure out why my furnace would only light some times. I have changed out almost every single part possible besides the blowers and inducer and was ready to give up and buy a new furnace. I happen to stumble across your video. I went downstairs at 1:30am and pulled the burners out and the wings were plugged full of rust. Put it all back together and it lit the very first time and it usually never lights the first time and will usually lock out at least twice a day. Thank you again so much!

I am printing out a QR code with a link to his YouTube channel and putting it on the refrigerator door at my relatives' house because it is that valuable in learning and troubleshooting appliances! Thank you so much!

I spent over $200 to have someone do this last year. I watched with hopes of doing it myself if I needed to. This video helped clarify the steps and make it super easy. Immediately worked! Thank you!

I really appreciate you sir.
Just encountered this problem in my home. It was cleaned once before and the Technician showed me.
It’s been a while since then and it’s time for another cleaning.

I don't currently have a forced-air gas furnace where I live but I have had problems with furnaces that could be explained by a dirty burner. This video is very helpful and informative. Thank you.

Thanks for your video!!! It just saved me $$$ to have my furnace repaired. My 8 yr old american standard 3 burner furnace started short cycling last year, so I thought it's the flame sensor and spend about $30 cad to order a new sensor. However, after installing the new sensor the problem did not go away. After watching your videos I tried to start the furnace with the burning chamber open and realised that the 3rd burner would not ignite most of the time. I tried cleaning orifices with plastic toothpick but still the problem did not go away. Only after watching this video I decided to remove the burners to have them cleaned up and found out the the ignition channels between the second and third burners were clogged. Cleaned up the ignition channels and the burners and put everything back and tadam now the furnace ignites 100% of the time. Also noticed the flame color of the 3rd burner has changed from yellow blue to pure blue!!! Thanks a lot for the educational videos! Keep up the good work!!!

Only because you asked for a service technicians point of view, and because you've got the general public doing this, you may want to mention they should turn the power off and the gas off before proceeding. Joe Blow homeowner gets up and walks away because the phone rings and the furnace kicks on with the burners out.... You might also want to mention how to check the heat exchanger while they got the burners out and for areas that they can't see from the burner area. (I seen you had your power switch off but you forgot to mention these things.)
