The mutual respect between these 2 and the ability to have meaningful dialogue even when they may not agree with one another is amazing! "Proportionality" is being distorted by both sides. In International Law it refers to suffering that is caused in no direct relation to a concrete military advantage and in disproportion with it. It's not a ratio how many killed on each side, but the intent by those doing the killing.

When I was 10 years old, I participated on my parent’s trip to Poland. They were taking my Grandpa to see again the places where he was fighting as 19 years old in the First war, was wounded and taken to Russia as a war prisoner. We decided to visit Auschwitz. 1962.
After that we were not able to complete the trip and we returned home. I will never forget that…
