Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro finds it “very bizarre” international law is invoked in the “response to a war crime”, but the original war crime, after Israel conducted a hospital raid in the West Bank.
Israeli Security Forces have been accused of violating international law after commandos disguised themselves as doctors and patients to raid a hospital in the West Bank and killed three Hamas and Islamic Jihad members.
“I defend that because if Hamas or, in this case, Islamic Jihad is using a hospital as a terror base, which they have historically done, then the violation of international law is on them,” Mr Shapiro told Sky News host Piers Morgan.
“I always find it very bizarre that international law is invoked when it comes to a response to a war crime but not to the original war crime.
“So, when Israel engages in a targeted military operation – by the way, not killing any civilians in this particular operation – killing people who are clearly terrorists, that is the war crime as opposed to terrorists using the hospital as an organising base?
“That seems to me peculiar.
“It’s unclear whether they were being treated or whether they were simply using the hospital as cover – that’s Israel’s contention anyway.”
