Ben Shapiro comments on Bassem Youssef’s use of ‘moral equivalence’ on Piers Morgan

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has accused Bassem Youssef of using “bad analogies and moral equivalence” as substitutes for “realism and moral clarity” when fighting terrorism.
Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef, on Piers Morgan Uncensored, accused Shapiro of having a ‘great year’ in 2014 because ‘88 Israelis died and there were 2,329 Palestinians killed on the other side’.
“Listen, Bassem is a very smart guy, and I don’t think that sarcasm or bad analogies or moral equivalence are really substitutes for realism or moral clarity about situations like fighting terrorism,” Mr Shapiro told Sky News host Piers Morgan.
“No one wants civilians to die – except for Hamas; Hamas does want civilians to die – but nobody rejoices when civilians die; no one is looking for an exchange rate of death for death.
“The point that I was making when you are talking about, for example, legal proportionality in terms of just war, what you’re talking about is proportionality to achieve your target.
“There is no actual math that goes into a war where you say if a certain number of people die on this side, versus a certain number of people die on that side, therefore the war is unjust – that is not exactly how war works.”
