Ultrawide vs Dual Monitor Setup - What Is The Best Setup For Productivity?

I have a 38" LG ultrawide as my main and a vertical 27" dell 4k secondary monitor. I reckon this is perfect for all tasks

Have been using a 29" ultrawide for a year or so but I'm getting a 32" "normal" monitor and turning the ultrawide into portrait orientation for my coding workflow. 29" was too small for me, as I still was left lacking for screen real estate while working, also there was not too much media that supported the ultrawide aspect ratio, so I'd prefer to go back for now.

Switched from 2x24 inch 1080p monitors to a 34 inch ultrawide. I miss having discord or twitch full screen on the 2nd screen, but i love the look of an ultrawide especially when games and movies support it.:) i recommend buying a 2nd monitor on top of an ultrawide tor the best of both

I use a drawing tablet for illustration/painting, and wondered why it felt SO unnatural drawing on my ultrawide monitor compared to my normal monitor at work, then I finally figured out: Most if not all drawing tablets are made with 16:9 aspect ratio in mind... Ultrawides are at least 21:9!
Due to the mapping distortions, horizontal strokes will translate slower than vertical strokes i.e. Circles I draw on my Wacom Intuos become ovals on the ultrawide... This shit bothered me so much after I noticed, that I straight up went back to my 24" lmao. Definitely something to consider if you plan on doing any digital art at all.

After seeing the comparison, wouldn't the best way to go is just to have an ultra wide and another monitor on top? This way you get the amazing gaming experience while also being able to still full screen videos on top.

I have two setups. My WFH has a dual setup of a 34 widescreen and a 27 inch mounted vertically. My gaming setup is a single 32 inch curve gaming monitor.

i use ultrawide with tiling wm on linux, and its pretty awesome, and i have 0 problems managing space

As a programmer, having a second screen in portrait mode is a complete game changer. Unfortunately, my wacom cintiq takes up wayyy too much space, so one of those monitors had to go. Once I get a dedicated illustration setup going though, I'm heading right back to the double monitor setup.

0:44 no one should setup like this. this is not ergonomically good and the neck will be stressed, medium to especially long term effects will be regretted. I got no clue why anyone thinks this is something good.

5:57 That's an easy one. Just use multiple Desktops and toggle between them. I often have at least 2-3 desktops, one dedicated for screen sharing with only the apps / folders that I want to share for daily Scrum, meetings, screen recording for documentation, etc. You can also set zones, and even crop in post-production in the latter case.

after using a 34 inch ultrawide for s few years ive realized bigger is not better for gaming, pro fps gamers mostly use smaller screens so their eyes don’t have to scan a large surface area to hit targets or make quick movements

I went dual 27in 4K at 100% scaling.
The screen real estate is unmatched, I need a lot of apps open at once… which is where having windows snap across 2 screens effectively 8 zones works perfectly.

06:50 you can maximize full screen on windowed screen.
Chrome.. More tools -> Create shortcut (and check 'open as window')
Or just use extension "Windowed"
