Does Birth Control Delay Menopause?
Показать описание
Menopause is the point in a woman's life when her ovaries stop producing eggs and her body's production of estrogen and progesterone decreases.
Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation, the release of an egg from the ovary. They do this by using synthetic hormones (such as progestin and estrogen) that mimic the body's natural hormones, and can regulate the menstrual cycle. Because the use of birth control pills suppresses ovulation, it is logical to hypothesize that it could "save" eggs for later.
But we have to talk about atresia to appreciate what is actually happening in the ovaries while on birth control.
The research on the effect of birth control on menopause is limited, and the evidence is not entirely clear. Some studies have suggested that women who take birth control pills for an extended period of time may experience menopause later than women who do not use birth control. However, other studies have found no significant difference in the age of onset of menopause between women who have used birth control and those who have not.
It's also worth noting that other factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and overall health can also play a role in determining the onset of menopause, so it's hard to make a conclusive statement on the impact of birth control on menopause
