TRANSCRIPT
At my house it's a big deal to have one less thing to wash. You can make rice and measure it perfectly with only your finger and the pot. You take your finger. You put your finger on the bottom of the sauce pot. Pour in the long grain white rice until it comes up to the first joint on your index finger. Take it to the faucet, with the water running, let the water run to the second joint on your index finger. You've doubled your proportion on your water to rice; no measuring cup.

Im half filipino but was taught differently. Instead of burying your finger we put it on top of the rice and fill it up the second line on our finger. Comes out perfect everytime.

This is how my Filipino mom has taught me to do it. Except we wash it first and then measure. :3

The rice needs to be rinsed at least 3 to 4 times before finger measuring, to get rid of the starch that makes the rice sticky. Once the rice is rinsed place your index finger on top of the rice and pour water till the first line on your finger. Tip from my Chinese friend!

It would be better if you didn't slap the connections to other videos right on top of what you're trying to show the viewer until you've actually finished explaining. Epic fail. Off to find a video where I can see what they're doing!!

Your end screen cards cover your entire demonstration. The whole purpose of watching this video is covered up by video thumbs of videos I don't care about.

I just make the water twice the level of the rice.
Works every time.

Is it really something extra to wash if you're just measuring water into the cup...

Or...you could measure it out with a measuring cup....
OR you could use the flat hand technique which works for more/less rice if you need it rather than relying on the finger thing which only lets you make 1 cup (1 joint?) worth.

That's fine and all, but you won't need to wash the measuring cup if the rice goes into a dry cup, and then the water. You just measure away, and leave the measurer to dry afterwards

It's also a traditional way of measuring oddly enough. It seems implied that you use the pot size you think you need. but yeah you can make 4 lbs of rice easilt that way too

it will because its about the proportions not the actual number... its still 2 to 1 even if the pot is 10 times as large.
