Using a diamond-tipped drill bit will create glass dust, so please wear safety glasses when doing this.

I would also recommend putting some water in where you're drilling, and tape (electrical preferred) around as a sort of wall to keep the water in as this prevents the shards/dust from being ejected out. Then rinse everything out once you're finished drilling.

One I cut opend it's vintage and I had to cut around it
