Being rich is mostly about mindset. I will probably never have 15 million, maybe not even 1 million. But I estimate that I'll need less than half a million in order to be financially independent. And reaching that level is quite easy.

I think rich is being able to pay all your bills each month while having no debt. Owning a house and a car, having a family vacation each year plus a couple weekend trips and still being able to save for retirement and a college fund for your kids.

In America, you'd have to make $400k annually to be 1%. Rich is assets and credit-based, wealth is having all of your assets paid off with your money earning you $250k a year.

It seems like this question is biased toward the A economy without any consideration for the B economy.

Example: Let's say that you have all the aquaponics equipment to feed your family continuously, without ever having to rely on supermarkets, and you are producing not just your family's food but also surplus that you sell to those people who want something fresher and produced without the chemicals that are so often sprayed on mass produced foods.

Are you rich if that's all you are doing? Not necessarily.

But you're sure as heck a lot better off than the people who have to keep up with inflationary pricing for substandard food in terms of quality of life. Never mind the associated health care expenses those others will accrue due to the GMO and chemical laden food they are gobbling down whether unknowingly or unwittingly.

And, if you're smart, you're already well ahead of that scenario. The point is, you don't have to work harder to be wealthy but you do have to work smarter.
