It's not anybody's business how much you make. They're not paying my bills. I think people ask just to compare your life to theirs. Those aren't real friends.

I have different point of view. I would just change the circle of friends. If you feel uncomfortable when they ask you how much you make, You are in a wrong circle. Because you don't trust them enough to be open book and it won't good for both parties for the longterm. I'd rather have friends who can inspire me by how many people they can impact in a positive way. Easiest measurements are looking at their income & their reputation.

But remember, City on a hill cannot be hidden.

People basically don't care....they are just jealous ...if the other person is earning more than they are...they just don't want other person to grow...

Good job Evan. This is one of the most uncomfortable Questions for me too but as soon as you realize people don't care how much you make (small or big), you ask yourself why are they asking if they don't care about me? And Boom! You get it. It's just a distraction and making you get uncomfortable with what you do.

I understand making yourself uncomfortable for the experience of growth. I have a love hate for it. You feel like such a boss when you finally get over yourself and get through whatever is making you uncomfortable. I went to a salon for a light purple on my white blonde hair, well they turned it bright purple. So, I rocked the hell out of that hair and never once had a negative remark. I did, however, receive more compliments from strangers than I ever had before. It taught me a lot and boosted my confidence.

If you play your cards right, then this question can segway into building your credibility for you, depending on your confidence and posture (non-verbal communication/physiology) Remember... while exuding joy and gratitude stay mentally grounded and remember that you are an abundance and money magnet!!
I answer “I make enough to meet our family needs comfortably.” (Work hard in silence, let success make the noise.) Then ask, “How does me telling you how much I make help you?” Then follow up with the original question, “How much do YOU make?” Followed up by, “Is that all you want?” “Are you looking to increase that figure?” You can choose to end with, “Isn’t fun manifesting greater abundance simply to help others?” Or even, questions about their plans or actions currently being taken to manifest greater success. If they were sincerely inquiring, both of you will be fired up and put action behind your ideas for a fruitful professional relationship. If not, they will be SO UNCOMFORTABLE and change the subject. Remember to be yourself and practice humility in knowing you are a money magnet and helping others become one too. It’s important to drop the knee-jerk reaction to feel offended. Some people WILL sincerely ask how much you make because they are looking for greater opportunities. The reason this question comes up is either envy or sincerely being inspired. Either way, be a lighthouse!! Surround yourself with others who DO NOT ask you that question. More often than not, in this case and context, money talks!

For me, I have a confidence (not arrogance) whereby people just do not ask. It’s a quiet aura I choose to portray of success. I have been successful in my life but choose not to brag or boast. You know your true friends when they support and cheer your journey rather than mock when you haven’t made a million in 6 months. Chip away gently. When you feel successful, the money is irrelevant.
