I think Josh speaking german wasn't that bad for a foreigner. I understood what he said. And I always appreciate it when people try our culture, food and language

I never thought about how strange Mettbrötchen must seem to non-Germans. I was never worried about it being raw, ate that stuff for breakfast every Sunday at my grandparent's when I was a kid 😂

So what I’ve learned from the comments is that Germany has amazing food hygiene! Awesome!

I'm German and hearing Sauerkraut being the "German Kimchi" just made me laugh but in a good way 😁 Glad you enjoyed the food~

Hi, when getting a Mettbrötchen you get basically minced meat. In Germany you need to serve minced meat freshly by law. Means it needs to be kept at a specific temperature and not older than a few hours. After that you need to either to cook it or throw it away. That law is called Hackfleisch Verordnung. And if you fail to to follow that rule set the ministry of health will shut down your business.

german Mett (raw pork hash) is the food with the most strict controls in germany, just because it is raw. and by that it is absolutely safe to eat.

Mett is not really a cologne local thing, more like a German thing in general.

I‘m from Austria, and i was shocked, when i learned about Mett, when i lived in Germany. I did research on it on the internet and found out that it is indeed safe to eat it, because the controls are very strict. I tried it and it is cheap and good. Kind of a pity that we don’t have that in Austria. On the other hand, we have enough other food in Austria that is excellent.

i love how you say "first we are having german beer" and half the country would go. that's kölsch, not beer :)

I’m German, I grew up with Mettbrötchen, aka Hackepeterbrötchen. I’ve always loved them! I wasn’t aware that they are not eaten elsewhere. But your reaction reminds me of my experience in Japan when I was served a raw egg to pour into my Ramen.
