At first I didn't notice the changes and I thought Alex behaved the same with both of the farmers, but after seeing how Alex behaved with my friend, I realized why she hated him and I love him.

It's kinda funny. When I first played, I quickly picked on the fact that some villagers were datable due to the (single) below the character's name and I just looked at the sprites of the characters and thought sure I'll go for this one, learned his name was Alex and soon enough was invested into the dude's story and only later learned that the dialogue was completely different depending on your character's gender.

i think it’s the same with haley and the female farmer—her character arc is so satisfying as a sapphic and watching her go from mean and catty to loving and open is so sweet

romancing alex as a man also has alex have a gay panic because alex initially doesnt think he likes guys and you change that for him. his ten heart event (the dinner he invites you to) has him come clean about how he tried to repress his feelings for the player but just couldnt.
it was really funny tho, as a gay guy playing stardew and having alex say 'i wish there were more girls in town, you know what i mean?' and i just sat there and said 'no, alex. i dont know what you mean'

Alex is such a sweetheart once you get to know him! Also I maintain that he’s one of the few characters who actually WANTS to work live/work on the farm. Most of the others have dreams they kind of end up giving up when you marry them, but Alex discovers that living on a farm, getting a husband, and being the good dad he never had is his new dream 😭

When you play as the male farmer his story becomes about him opening up, and realize a part of himself he didnt know or bother to explore before which ends up being a lot more interesting! instead of just an unremarkable jock romance when you play as a girl

Something I noticed about Alex as well is that his reaction in the group 10 heart is also VERY different.

If you’re a girl, he’ll be pissed, acting all tough and even calling you trash; but if you’re a dude, he’ll feel heartbroken and used, saying he thought “we were one of a kind” 😭😭

I always loved Alex's story while playing as a male farmer. He says he thought it was wrong to feel that way about another man, but he realized eventually that it wasn't.
