Apple’s own support site doesn’t tell you where to find the terminal so as soon as you click on anything in the recovery window the utilities is gone! So frustrating. This video was a lifesaver! Amazing!

Thank you very much indeed for this guidance. I had a complete mental blank regarding my password, probably because since I last used my MacBook Pro in January I have had radiotherapy and hormone treatment for cancer; the latter has side effects! (But the therapies work. I'm much better now!) I kept missing the "Utilities" because it is on the first page of the recovery tree, and I kept hitting the "Disk Utilities" option. When I saw your video, I realised what I was doing wrong. Great to see the inside of my MacBook again!!

This doesn't work on Catalina if file vault is enabled. Before the Utilities come up, it ask for a password for an admin account on the hard drive.
