My Next Credit Card: Chase Sapphire Reserve or Ink Preferred?

As I’ll be under Chase 5/24 in just a few short weeks, I've been wondering should I get a Chase business credit card or not? Specifically, should I get the Chase Ink Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve?

Both cards have great perks and benefits, but what would be the best fit for me and my credit card portfolio? In this video, I go over both credit cards, select a credit card, and then explain why.

Most importantly, I would like to get one of these cards to get access to Chase's travel partners. At this point, I only have the Chase Ink Cash and Chase Ink Unlimited cards, so my redemption options are capped to direct deposit at 1cpp.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve has a $550 annual fee but has an easy-to-use $300 travel credit to offset this fee. The Chase Ink Preferred has a $95 annual fee and is a business credit card.

Business cards don't add to Chase 5/24, and one of my goals is to stay under Chase 5/24 as long as possible, which is harder than it sounds!

So which card will I choose? Find out in this video!

Note: 03:31 Beginning July 1st, 2024, the Chase Sapphire Reserve will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes, and markets participating in Priority Pass Select.

Also at 08:25, PP restaurant benefit ending on July 1st, 2024.

This video was recorded before the announced Priority Pass changes on the CSR.

Smart move!! Larger bonus, lower annual fee, and you get to stay under 5/24. Now you have access to Chase's transfer partners. I'll see you at a Hyatt 😉

Married and under 5/24 all in 30 days. Things must be good. Congratulations, Stan.

Definitely makes sense with your choice being a Biz Card in order to extend the period of being under 5/24. I've been thinking about going Ink Preferred over Sapphire Preferred for awhile, and I think that discussion will continue to accelerate as I travel more and the 3x general travel category continues to add value. In the CSR argument, I'm right with you in that Travel Partners is the most important benefit to me, and so going for the CSR doesn't make a ton of sense/is necessary. Great video as always Stan!

Nice video Stan. Good choice on the INK Preferred. I have the CSR but would consider the INK Preferred except I am at 8/24

I plan on staying 4/24 or better forever. Too many good Chase deals. And you have all those different EIN/SSN businesses for multiple inks :)

Exact same move I’ll be applying for when I’m back under 5/24

Nice move Stan. I think the chase Ink trifecta is a powerful one for sure and I think you’ll get plenty of use out of that CIP.

Would you ever consider a “Chase Transfer Points Guide for Idiots”? So much of your content is clear and concise.

CSR is my absolute favorite card even though it desperately needs an update. But given your strategy and setup I would have made the same choice!

I think you made the right choice, it just makes too much sense in general, but specifically all the reasons you laid out.

Especially since you want that separation from Business and personal, the welcome offer + no 5/24 hit on the Ink Preferred doesn’t hurt either haha.

I liked hearing your thought process, let’s go Stan, Ink Train hahaha!

My eyes lit up when you said a new luxury Hyatt CC. Going with CIP makes sense with your situation.

Good video stan. Agree with your thoughts. The ink cards are super strong. The ink cash might even be the strongest earner in the game if youre the type to put in the work.

The spend thresholds are also more achievable for a wider range of people than their amex counterparts.

After 8 years in the points and miles game, I've never had a Chase UR card. I was in the early game when the CSR launched, and jumped straight to Amex shortly after. Now that Chase is my main bank, and I have the IHG card, I do see the Ink Preferred making sense at some point.

Very helpful as I'm preparing to make the exact same decision in a few months. Thank you.

I loved listening to your thought process choosing between the two cards. I think the Ink Preferred is def the way to go as well. I'd like to get both of these cards eventually-- getting the sapphire preferred in December this year and my second ink in September!

Totally agree with you, the ink preferred was the right move for you. I also prefer the ritz + preferred combo, just makes more sense! I’d love to change my CSP to the CIP but I’m waiting for a time when I’m confident I can hit the 8k spend.

Also I saw your question about the IHG biz vs Ink preferred. I think it comes down to if you have any immediate need for Chase transfer partners. If so, grab the preferred. If not, I’d jump on the elevated IHG biz offer and then get the preferred after. I imagine it’s hella tempting to use those Chase points, but if you don’t truly need them rn, might as well get some extra IHG points first!
