This is my How to Win Friends and Influence People Review
How to Win Friends and Influence People Review by Dale Carnegie
The most successful leaders all have one thing in common: They've read How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
Great lessons from the book How to Win Friends and Influence People:
(00:50) ► Dale Carnegie recommends to become genuinely interested in other people
A sentence that really stood out for me was: You can make more friends in 2 months by becoming genuinely interested in other people than you can in two years trying to get people interested in you.
This is because we like people that admire us. If you want to win friends also try to great people with enthusiasm. They will pick this up and will like you more.
(02:33) ► Let the other person feel that an idea is his or hers is another great way to win friends.
Most people prefer their own ideas and if it turns out that an idea was a good one you can simply give the other some credit for this idea. Say it was his idea or that you interpreted their idea that way. This is a very fast way to win friends for example if you just started a new job at a new workplace and want to win friends.
I also once read that a sentence that I will never forget. I don’t know if it is from “How to Win Friends and Influence People” but it is definitely a good one:
"People are 100% likely to agree with an idea that they think is their own."
(03:21) ► Be a good listener!
(04:07) ► Another tip from my How to Win Friends and Influence People Review is Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
This is something every boss out there should know. Calling attention to people’s mistakes directly is exactly the opposite of how to win friends. And if you ever called attention to one’s mistake indirectly you will know for sure that they’re very thankful. They will admire you for this which also helps a lot if you want to win him or her as a friend.
(05:17) ► And lastly, Dale Carnegie writes remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language
A sentence that stood out for me was this one: Using a person’s name is crucial, especially when meeting those we don’t see very often. Respect and acceptance stem from simple acts such as remembering a person’s name and using it whenever appropriate.” I think that saying the another person’s name is a forgotten skill in our today’s society. Even tough real and online friends seem more important than ever there are still many people who ask themselves how to win friends? Starting a conversation with saying the other person’s name whether online or in real life is very powerful.
(05:56) ► Avoid arguments when you want to befriend someone
Avoiding arguments can be very powerful if you want to win friends because most of the time, people don’t use ‘healthy arguments’ they’ll just want the other person to believe them and proof their point. It happens quite often that someone who argues makes the other person feel embarrassed, uncomfortable, or hurt their pride. If you are in an argument, you have to learn to control your temper if you want to win a friend. And if someone tries to argue with you and brings up a new point you haven’t thought of, show them appreciation of that point and look for areas of agreement.
Enjoy
