HI when should this filter be replaced also how often should it be cleaned ?

I tried to clean my plinth filter for the first time after about 5 loads of laundry in a new machine. It seems to still be well intact and for some reason when I put the filter back in the door won’t close. I really need help with this issue and would like to hear from either Miele, or perhaps others who have run into the same problem.
