Thanks for the tip about the caulk/silicone remover solvent. I have a fiberglass tub with tough silicone and ran out to the store and purchase a bottled and what a difference! It saved me so much time and headache. It worked so fast and cleaned up very old silicone. Rinsed with soap and water then alcohol. I couldn't scrape without gouging the tub and causing damage to the surface! The results were so much cleaner!

I have been a professional caulker for over 45 years. NEVER USE ANY CHEMICAL TO SOFTEN SEALANTS. It is guaranteed to contaminate porous surfaces like grout and stone. You will never see a knowledgeable caulker use them. If we do we are required to mechanically abrade ( grind) the bonding surfaces. And liquid TSP leaves a film that contaminates the bonding surface. NEVER use anything but acetone or alcohol. And don’t use those cheap consumer sealants no matter what they claim. Use silicone by GE or DOW they supply sealants to the industry. And never use DAP for any waterproofing applications.

Wiping the surface with alcohol you don't need to wait over night but a few minutes before applying the caulk

Wouldn't hurt to put something over the drain opening while removing the old caulk.

at 4:03 all of the ridge lines from running your finger over the caulk disappeared. how did you clean them without getting into a redo?
