Wow. I cannot believe how accurately this described my ex boyfriend. The lack of empathy was the main reason why I broke up with him. At some point I just ran out of my patience and strentgh. I have not found a new partner yet, but I have never regretted my decision. I know I would never be happy with him and I am happier without him. I wish these people were able to make their self-reflection and change for their own good.

The thing is that it is really hard to recognize toxic people in your life, because you tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. One of my best friends was very similar. He was extremely toxic and constantly gaslighting me. We stopped talking half a year ago and it was only after we ended our friendship that I've realized how noxious he really was.
