Btw, the name „Flugplatz“ translates to „Airfield“ and it’s not a coincidence. From the very beginning, that hill was notorious for getting cars airborne and it has seen its fare share of accidents and deaths.

The crazy part is that the real Jann Mardenborough did a majority of the stunt driving for the actor that played him in the Gran Turismo movie.

y'know, Jann's story hits so close, it always breaks my heart.
I remember following the GT Academy almost religiously. The passion that was passed with all of this is overwhelming, whenever I remember. When the news about GT Academy ending I felt so bad. GT Academy, in my younger brain, was the only way I could reach real, professional racing.

Flugplatz means "Runway" or "Flightpad" in German. Jan's car wasn't the first going airborne on that straight bump, it will not be the last, until it can be smoothed out.

Nordschleife is called the Green Hell for a reason, that track is a challenge. There is a reason why Formula 1 don't race the full track anymore.

A very similar if more tragic story is the story of German racer Stefan Bellof. Someone who could've become a world champion in both F1 and WEC but was tragically taken too soon. And is even the reason y so many F1 drivers today are restricted from doing other motorsport events. I'd love to see u take on that story

Jan was not at fault, that could've happened to anybody. For the less known facts which people comment without knowing: The spectators were placed ina forbidden part of the track, banned for spectators. Jann was low on fuel, as he was gonna pit that lap. Due to the less fuel the car was lighter, meaning it was easier to take off, exatly what happened.

They didn't qualify 11th in the 2013 Le Mans. They qualified 11th overall, but they were driving an LMP2 car. They qualified 3rd in the LMP2 class.
Which also means that they didn't really gain any positions in their class.
