"Being a car guy, without a job is like being a guitarist without a guitar". So true. Proud of you. It's a tough decision to put it lightly. Congratulations

Find yourself happiness & look beyond the check. In the end, you’ll thank yourself & your sanity will thank you. 👍

I know I've been subscribed for a while but this appeared in my feed and I just had to watch it. Its great to hear from someone who goes into depth and shows that not everything always goes great

I'm a software engineer, and where I work, project managers are some of the MVPs. I don't know how they keep track of so many people, swimlanes, strategies, and yet somehow are able to inspire us geeky engineers to do fun things or work smarter. I massively respect you guys, and at the same time, I admit I don't envy you for your jobs!
I've kinda been in a similar spot, where I was hating my job, but felt I couldn't leave due to how I was part of a team that was working on some bleeding-edge stuff at the time, which seemed like an opportunity I'd be foolish to give up. However, I was able to get a spot at the same company with a different team, which made it way easier. Still, it was tough to get up the courage to actually say "This ain't workin'" to my manager.

I am an IT Manager for a small company. (300 users) Not a 24x7 job but old fashioned culture. 50 hour week, 30 min lunch, 3 weeks PTO, no sick time, 6 Holidays. Not alot of home, Family, Car time. I'm married, 59 years old, drive a 2004 BMW 330i ZHP as a daily. Love the car, hard to keep nice daily driven on Ohio. Want an M3 but Family, House, Health Care, taxes, tuition (18 year old) make it very difficult to afford. Maybe I can retire in 5 years and get my M3? Kudos to you for making the change from the Corporate Grind!! Keep up the great YT videos. Always enjoy watching.

I wish you the very best man! Inner contentment is so very important, regardless of income.

This video rang so true to my situation that I watched this 10 times and annotated everything you said.
Not 100% the same situation but basically I am starting a new role at 30% less pay than now. Working for a startup that would have guaranteed me a big payout. Taking a huge risk with the economic situation starting something new.
I have money to keep myself and family afloat for a time if the worst happens. Today is the first Monday in 3 years I haven't had major anxiety.
Thanks for relaying so eloquently exactly my thoughts!
Stay safe brother. I would gladly offer you my car if you were in the UK :)

Loved your story and the direction you're taking your life to. I just recently made a video about quitting my job as well, and a lot of what you said about feeling like your job was sucking away at your happiness really resonated so strongly. It's a scary thing leaving a secure job, but hey, how good does it feel to know that all the control is back in your hands.

Anyway, wishing you all the best mate! 👌

leaved my internship two weeks before pandemic as you. Was hard. Not the same country, i can't find a job in my field without it to be toxic or just paying the minimum wage. I started to build my business but it failed, two times, and now 2 years later i surely get back to a job... but i know i will come back and be the french version of you Tom, keep it up :)

I totally relate to EVERYTHING your saying. I myself am probably going to quit my job sometime this year.... maybe next month. I have been there for years working hard and had an excellent performance review... despite all that my manager won't promote me. I've constantly dealt with lots of BS... including working through this pandemic and potentially putting my life on the line. I do the same mind numbing repetitive work that can be done with my hands tied behind my back and blindfolded. I'm constantly bombarded from all sides though, managers complaining about things that I don't have control over, customer complaining about things I don't have control over, coworkers not pulling their own weight... I have learned almost nothing new at the job in my almost four years of being there. They also refuse to let me switch teams, they want me to fail. I have applied for various internal positions and got denied despite having the work experience, excellent performance and good educational background. THEIR LOSS, when I leave I gave them every chance to retain me. Maybe they should have given me the promotion (really just a pay bump) I deserved... I probably still would have quit even with the promotion but the principal of being denied a promotion I deserve... I felt insulted/disrespected.... like all my hard work was for NOTHING.

I learned that nothing I buy will give me gratification or solace that I'm looking for. Gratification from material possessions is an illusion. Almost nothing I have bought (other than food) brings me gratification. I'm not chasing cars anymore, I'm going to chase dreams, I'm going to build my own empire.

The only thing I enjoy is taking my Civic Type R on a backroad... when it's parked and i'm not driving it I could almost care less. I have a WRX STI also but thats getting sold when I quit... I will only own the Civic Type R it will be cheaper to insure, better MPG, more reliable and I enjoy the Civic more than the STI now.

I have a plan b already, stock trading I LOVE IT... I already know how trading works and had some successful trades so i'm not going into it blind. I also plan to start a new you-tube channel for some driving videos/car talk. I also will be learning some Python programming, AWS / Cloud stuff. I also may start a computer repair / IT / Cyber business on the side... I'm basically going to leverage everything I know and make sure I enjoy myself along the way.

Very inspiring. I work as an IT engineer but this is not what makes me smile. I’m a car guy. I’m 27, and I hope one day I’ll have sorted a way to live by my passion.
I wish you the best in your new life!

I think we're within a few years of each other and I've always enjoyed your outlook on life through your channel. Best of luck through this, I hope you can do what you enjoy and live comfortably. I've been working in the field as an engineer for 4 years now and can attest to how grueling and soul sucking it can be at times, and I work with great people in an industry I was all too excited to join out of college. Reality isn't always what you picture in your head. Be safe out there, we will be able to do car things again soon.

Perfect description of the working world, exactly how I feel at times! Yes I appreciate still working, I ran my own business prior and that was an even more drain, so still happier where I am working. Follow you happiness!
