Hey I'm Amy I'm 15 . I was diagnosed last year after trying to be diagnosed since age of 4 with autism. The pass 2 years I've suffered with voices telling me to do negative thing and to run away ect. I've been tested for psychosis and they dont think I do but they cant really tell until I'm older . My dad shown me a little of this video a few weeks ago and I didn't believe that it is associated with autism. But tonight I watched it all on my own and now I feel like it may be a part of my autism. So thank you for making this video .

Thank you so much for this. My 9 year old PDA son has told us recently he hears voices in his head and I did completely freak out. This is enormously helpful, lots of great suggestions and ways of thinking about next steps. My son shows all the behaviours you describe here, so glad to hear it's more common that I thought. Thank you.

Some people do not have an inner monologue at all. It's fascinating to hear them explain what it's like. Check it out sometime.

I was directed here through a fb group. Thank you so much for this video as this is something my 11yo is currently dealing with. Really informativ Her voices seem to be attached to named (unknown IRL) individuals. They fight or do silly things and she responds to them- shouting at them, running out of class so she can I think communicate with them or at least so she isnt in view of classmates. It doesn't seem they tell her to do things although occasionally she may lash out (not badly) and hit myself or herself. My first thought was internal monologue. GP referral to CAMHS is in and now we wait....

I like your video, very good, thanks for sharing. Have you or your daughter looked at hearing voices support groups or therapists that are part of the hearing voices network. They have a wealth of experience, management strategies, often had their own experience before studying therapy and have a non pathologising approach. Voices often sound like someone else that can be scary, standing up to the voices in a compassionate/friendly but assertive way is often more effective but swearing at them works for some people too.

Hi ASD person here. I am so interested in hearing you, but it's very difficult to separate your voice from the music in the background. Music is lovely, but it's hard for me. Sticking with it because I'm so interested. Thank you.

I wouldnt say I "hear voices, " but I definitely have an active internal monologue that I recognize as such. Sometimes it ventures into to what I call intrusive thoughts, but I could 100% see how a child would interpret that as voices. At times my anxiety is such that I have to either knowingly act upon the unwanted thought to make it lose its grip on me, or I have to eat the anxiety that can last for days or weeks until a new anxiety takes its place. If I act upon the thought to ease the anxiety, I then have to deal with the resultant emotional consequences--shame and possibly guilt for example. Being a serial "rule follower" I feel plenty of shame for breaking my own rules I have for myself. An unavoidable compulsion, or unavoidable shame, always a difficult outcome.

I have not had PDA added to my autism diagnosis by any professional, but I have no doubts I am affected by it. My 9yo son was recently diagnosed autistic, and he told his assessor that he hears voices whispering when he tries to go to sleep. No surprise he often ends up in bed with mom or dad or on the couch most nights. Since he has not confided in me about the voices, I have not yet talked to him about it, as the act of even mentioning something that scares him will cause him nighttime anxiety for days. But i would eventually like to bring it up with him.

my god thank you for this video, my psychologist had already ignore me and called me attention seeking. Mine aren't that bad. I have an occasional bad voice, i called him Lucas or Luke. But most of them keep me safe, tell me to eat, sleep, do my homework for example. I had depression as a small child so these things are still very hard for me to do.

My twelve year old autistic son has been having voices in his head (sometimes girl voice and sometimes boy voice that are not his voice). He named one of the voices Maxx. 😳Sometimes telling him to do bad stuff and sometimes a piece of paper drawing talking back to him(he says the paper robots are his friends)😳and sometimes he talks like a baby and sometimes he is a wolf. The school says he is chaotic.
