I saw a meme where the reason Guilliman looks younger than the lion now is because, during their respective coma's the lion was simply left alone, whereas Guiliman had moisturiser applied once a day by an ultramarine captain, as the codex asteries instructs. This is now my personal head cannon.

I have a theory GW wanted to age him to match Russ. As in his Primarch novel, Russ is described as looking pretty old, grey hair etc before he leaves. It's all geared towards these 2 ultimate smash bros teaming up and showing chaos what's what!

I think it could also have something to do with gman sitting in stasis for 10k years while the lion just took a nap.
