Why not skip having to put the formulas in a hidden column and reference the cells, and just put the formulas in the data validation source? Is there a benefit to do it this way, even though it seems like an extra step? Makes sense for a demonstrative video, but doesn't seem to be the simplest for a real-world application.

Very good example of the fundamental functions, but finish it up by showing how NO Invalid combination exists. Your example REQUIRES that you MUST go through Three selections Every time, and COMPLETE the three selections. if you do it once and then just change Department, the second two selections are INVALID. You can introduce the "Circle Invalid Data" function but better to just clear out the invalid data so it can never be confused with Valid data. also, since Vlookup is simple, but has so many limitations, using Xlookup or Index and Match will allow you to deal with all of the possible initial data configurations that you may want to use the Multiple Dependent operations for.
