I had an old farm house that was over 80years old. It had no foundations but built on packed earth. The whole floor slab had detatched from the walls and thousands of ants came into the house via these cracks. After many years and a lot of money on Dyant poison to absolutely no avail. Someone suggested baby talcum powder. Two applications and that ended the ant invasion. Could not believe such a simple remedy sorted out a problem I had for a few years.

I just used regular white sugar with equal parts baking soda and it worked 100%.

You can also use an anteater in the kitchen...and then when ants are eaten you can eat the anteater. You then become an anteatereater.

If you have ants in your house it usually means that the nest is nearby. The easiest way to get rid of them is to locate the nest (you will see them swarming in the area and carrying in food), then douse the area with white vinegar, wait half an hour or so, then re-apply. They will move the nest and the ants will be gone from your house. I've successfully done this, as have others I know, several times. It doesn't kill the ants (they are quite beneficial to the ecosystem and there is no reason to add poisons to the soil or water table) and it's cheap.

Diatenacious earth, a powder available at garden stores, is incredibly effective. This morning I saw carpenter ants on our front steps, entering a tiny space under our front deck. I sprinkled a little of the powder in front of the space and the ants turned around and walked away. On a separate incident, I sprayed wasp repellent spray in an opening in the back of our house and I haven’t seen a single ant since.

Since I was using my grinder to powder my sugar, I threw in a couple of dog food kibbles in case they like protein too - then mixed with baking soda - should cover the range since I’m not sure what attracted them to begin with. BTW love the humorous replies - plutonium and making a trail of maple syrup to the neighboring house - HA!

This only works on ants that are attracted to sugar or sweet ingredients. If this doesn't work it's because your ants are attracted to protein rich ingredients like peanut butter or chicken, turkey, or roast beef, etc. Just mash up your protein ingredients and mix with a small amount of baking soda. You can add more baking soda if necessary. It should work great.

I put a teaspoon of sugar outside on the trail of ants every year in march.they go for that and dont come in house anymore. Job done.

Eastlink came to do an instal at my home. They drilled a hole from outside to the inside of my house without properly sealing the cable that passes through the wall.
Every spring I get ants in that corner of my house.
They did not take accountability.
Every spring I use some method to get rid of them.
So disappointing!

Those trays work amazing too. Assumedly it's a liquid syrupy mixture of the aforementioned ingredients.

We use borax mixed with sugar or honey and water and it
Works every time

Borax (laundry detergent booster) with sugar, 1:5 borax/sugar (too much borax the ants will avoid) ants take it back to the queen and shortly after the colony dies.

Would that really work? Maybe.

The way exterminators get rid of carpenter ants for example is they bait them with a substance that’s tasty to them but poisons them. They are also cannibals so they eat the dead ants so the poison makes its way through the entire colony and wipes them out.

This baking soda remedy seems similar.

It's worth giving it a go since cinnamon didn't seem to work at all.

Does this work on ant hills in the garden ?

They were sneaking in my bathroom window. Laid down a line of ground cinnamon, and no problem since.

Ya right, I tried this and yes the ants stayed away from the powder but they just started another path and went from there. You can't turn your whole house into baking soda.
