he said, in quote "I DON'T SEE HOW IT IS A SIN". He used the personal pronoun "I" several times. This is his personal opinion. He also spoke about cultures and traditions of some nations. He wasnt basing his convictions on God's word. God's words are eternal. What God calls abomination in the times of Moses, HE still calls abomination this day. A MAN SHALL NOT WEAR WHAT PARTAINETH TO A WOMAN NEITHER SHAL A WOMAN PUT ON A MAN'S GARMENT. Its clear. We shall not be judged by traditions or cultures of men but by God's word on the day of judgement. For example, for the fact that certain constitutions or traditions permit LBTQ doesn't mean we should practice it as Christians. Just as the preacher would mind wearing skirts behind the pulpit, so we should be mindful of how we interpret scriptures, for we shall give account if we cause some to stumble.

@3.55-4.00 you said that one can be guided on areas that the Holy Spirit or Ellen White has not spoken on. This is true. But the issue of pants or trousers both the Scriptures and Ellen White have explicitly spoken about it.

I'll post them here.
Secondly the Christian culture supercedes our individual cultures especially when our culture contradicts the express instruction of God.

Let us explore what Ellen White in reference to the Deuteronomy 22:5 writes

"In this style of dress God's order has been reversed, and his special directions disregarded. Deuteronomy 22:5. "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." This style of dress, God would not have his people adopt. It is not modest apparel, and is not at all fitting for modest, humble females who profess to be Christ's followers. God's prohibitions are lightly regarded by all who would advocate the doing away of the distinction of dress between males and females. The extreme positions taken by some dress-reformers upon this subject cripple their influence. 2 Selected Messages pg. 477.8


Now going to the specifics as it relates pants as a male clothe Sister White affirms
"There is still another style of dress which will be adopted by a class of so-called dress reformers. They will imitate the opposite sex, as nearly as possible. They will wear the cap, pants, vest, coat, and boots, the last of which is the most sensible part of the costume. Those who adopt and advocate this style of dress, are carrying the so-called dress reform to very objectionable lengths. Confusion will be the result. Some who adopt this costume may be correct in their views in general upon the health question, and they could be instrumental in accomplishing vastly more good if they did not carry the matter of dress to such extremes. 2SM 477.7

The Prophet is here telling us that women imitate the opposite sex by wearing, among other things, the pants (trousers)which is objectionable. This pants 👖being a point of distinction. This is while commenting on Deuteronomy 22:5 hence it is not permissible. It's still an abomination. It is a sin as a lying lips is an abomination.

As to the Bible reference
God Himself prescribes the breeches (another name for trousers) for the priests

The description given God was specific for Aaron and his sons. This God's culture . God designed trousers as a male clothing. And we find no place in the Scriptures where this is recommended as a woman's clothes..(compare with

In another scripture we see men—Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego —described as putting on trousers 👖 similar to Ellen Whites description in 2 SELECTED Messages

“Then these men were bound in their coats, their HOSEN, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.”In another version
“So those men were tied up while still wearing their cloaks, TROUSERS, turbans, and other clothes, and were thrown into the furnace of blazing fire.”

So both the Scriptures and Ellen White affirm that it is an abomination and a sin for women to wear trousers or pants.

Even when culture contradicts what scripture says "we ought to obey God rather than men." And by our tradition we do not make vain God culture (Mark 7: 7—9) And God's candid warning is we should not let culture lead us to reject his commands “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.”

This answer confirms my opinion that clothing is not a salvation issue and not a sin. However, as everything else it should be done for the glory of God. It should be modest and should not entice the desires of the opposite (or even worse the same) gender.

I'm from Fiji..what Pastor Skeete was referring to is a Sulu..which is a traditional Fijian Formal wear for native Fijian males.

Based on what you said in the video I want to share what I have seen from SOP with you and all who are watching. It is not exhaustive but it is yet pointed and clear enough in my opinion. The main focus is the Ellen White comments.

From what I can read in Ellen White's interpretation of Deut 22:5, she has a different take. See the comments below.

I saw that God's order has been reversed, and His special directions disregarded, by those who adopt the American costume. I was referred to Deuteronomy 22:5: "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." God would not have His people adopt the so-called reform dress. It is immodest apparel, wholly unfitted for the modest, humble followers of Christ. {1T 421.2}
There is an increasing tendency to have women in their dress and appearance as near like the other sex as possible, and to fashion their dress very much like that of men, but God pronounces it abomination. "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety." 1 Timothy 2:9. {1T 421.3}

From Ellen White's inspired understanding, she says that women imitating men as near as possible is a violation of Deut 22: 5 which is an abomination. Now to get specific as to what ways women imitate men that is wrong or a sin, she mentions the dresses that does this imitation. See below.

She mentions cap, pants, vest, coat, and boots, not to say that these dresses are exclusively for men but the one of pants and trousers seems to stand out in the quote below. Historically, Christian women never wore them because they knew something. It was the heathen women who wore them and we are to not to learn the way of the heathen. During the suffrage movement of the 1850's was when this matter of women wearing trousers began to creep in and that was what brought about these inspired words which we read now. For a time Ellen White advocated the wearing of trousers for women inside their gowns, skirts or dresses in such a way that the gown was covering the lady so well that this couldn't be an imitation of the opposite sex. This was not well received. Ellen White then received a vison on what the dress of women should be. There was no trouser in it. Three styles of dress were shown but only one was approved. This can be found in Testimony 11 or Selected Messages Vol. 3, pg. 278 - 279. I will state only the approved dress given in the vision.

A third class passed before me with cheerful countenances, and free, elastic step. Their dress was the length I have described as proper, modest and healthful. It cleared the filth of the street and side-walk a few inches under all circumstances, such as ascending and descending steps, &c. {RH, October 8, 1867 par. 8}

After that vision she wrote.

I beg of our people to walk carefully and circumspectly before God. Follow the custom of dress in health reform, but do not again introduce the
short dress and pants unless you have the word of the Lord for it.--Letter 19, 1897. (To J. H. Haughey, July 4, 1897.) {5MR 405.3}

For the record, this does not mean that ladies wearing shorts and various lengths of trousers inside their gowns is a sin. I do not say wearing it is a sin when it is worn inside a skirt or a gown, but as it is worn today, it is a far cry, even worse than what she condemned in her day.

In summary, imitating the opposite sex is attributed to Deut 22:5 and Ellen White and the bible calls it not just a sin but an abomination. So based on the above, I think it is clearly a sin in Ellen White's interpretation of Deut 22:5 and that the main article of dress she referred to is the trousers. She even said the boots is sensible.

Ellen white instruct us to demand a thus says the Lord on matters of faith. The fact that my dear pastors does not see it when Deut 22: 5 is clear on that is worrying. It is particularly important that on matters where God has spoken we start from there moving forward with supporting scriptural evidence and the Spirit of Prophesy. Relying on our opinions will only give the devil the power to overthrow us. Pants were fought for by women rights groups we must not ignore that. It is not like pant were made at the same time for both men and women. First they were for men, women fought for them, centuries after it had be a norm that pants are for men.Wmen craved what was men's dress and fought for it. Cross dressing is viewed by God as an abomination the world does not care about that, but as children of God what God calls an abomination remains so, we can not dare alter it. Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. May be Pastor you need to take a closer look at the subject and give us a Bible based answer otherwise this one is not acceptable for it is your valued opinion. Jesus warned us n Mark 7:13 not to make of non effect the word of God through tradition.

Don't add or subtract to the Word of God. If God says stop then stop. Why compromise on God's word. Dressing is part of God's requirement on conduct, order and doctrine. Nationality or religion doesn't change the thoughts of God about His Word. Let's respect His Word. That's God.

Thank you for clarification on this matter. I know that there are cultural values but there is also a dress code for every season and everything under the sun. Going to Church dressing is different to going swimming.
