I agree I was never able to get muscle ups till I just did weighted pull-ups, all you really need is explosive strength so now I can do waist to bar pull-ups

I do agree. I used to rock climb a lot and when I was pretty good at bouldering 45 degree walls and doing front levers I tried a human flag and it just happened pretty easily.

I agree, because, contrary to the advice of most YouTube tutorials, human flag training in my opinion does not follow progressive overload. Every exercise is either too easy (e.g. human flag with leg on the ground) or too hard (e.g. tuck or jumping human flag), with a large gap between them. Case in point: I spent 2 months as a beginner futilely trying to do the tuck flag with no progress whatsoever. I then spent a year and a half doing overhead pushing and pulling progressions, came back to the flag, and can now hold it for 5 seconds.

In the beginning of my training journey, I used to train the flag at least 2 times a week, that only got me an injured shoulder. I never touched the flag again for years. When I could do handstand pushups and hold a good front lever I tried the flag again just to see how far I was this time and it just happened, I held for at least 5 seconds.

Still hurts my shoulder though.

I always did HSPU for a year and also straddle planche with front lever then I tried my first human flag on a pole after 5 days of full rest and it happened naturally for 7 seconds.

Agree, after unlocking L-sit Muscle-up and Handstand got the Full flaq in 2 weeks after train a couple of times. there is no need for spefic flag training as long as u get the basic push pull exercise and strong core

I agree, before I got huge into calisthenics it took me a few weeks to learn but once I started doing weighted pull-ups and weighted dips, and planche and front lever progressions I can still do it without training it for months, honestly can hold it longer now lol

I agree, never ever practiced it, then on a whim this week I tried it twice (i just posted it). I can sort of do it but was just wondering how to straighten it out and came here.

I managed to learn some skills over time including muscle up, back lever, front lever etc. but never got the human flag. So personally I disagree but good for you.

I know this is off topic but somebody has to say it, what a beautiful room and beautiful floor in the background. I wish this was my place.

What other movement skills will help one achieve the strength to do a human flag?

Yebb
Training for the oa pullup and HSPU for example will build pushing and pulling strength to do the flag
And working on core strength can be done seperatly

yes mine came from Training the one arm pull up and the Freestanding Handstand Push up. however I believe we should train the Frontal and transverse plane of motion to prevent Injury from all the Sagittal plane skills. so to me this is a Must to at least add to the routine. I do agree it comes free if your strong in both push and pull

I agree I didn't train it before and was able to hold straddle it was one of the first skills that I've unlock.

I actually tried it and got it. Been training Calisthenics for 3 months now and I tried it few days back. I was able to hold it for 3-5 secs

depends if you want these other skills or not but planche and front does help you to unlock it pretty effortlessly. still needs a bit of trainin though

It's surprising easy if you're consistent with bodyweight training. Do the negative movement to get the feel, and you'll have it down very shortly after.

For me, Human Flag is very easy, and I mastered it 24 days from the first day I learned it

I never train it. It is a gift of pulling and pushing.
