if you can make as much in the side business as your regular job, you might as well do both. After a year and Twice as much as regular job, quit the regular.

Depends on the job and the amount saved to fall back on. In my line of work as a producer/editor, there's so many people in a drought at the moment as more people enter the job market.

It's not unusual to hear people go from nothing to a 3, 6 or 12 month contract for a project and then when it ends they're back where they started because the project finished, funding discontinued and it could be a long time or never before you're thought of by someone crewing up the next tight budget project.

Some work is always going to be insecure and will require having a backup. Delivery driving is a popular option.

This is a good rule, so far the most I've made in a month on my side business is 36% of my salary job which I was surprised I was able to make that much. If I can get to 100% or more consistently, I'll be a beast!!
