Given his father didn’t age, Vought might have engineered him to age as a form of control and ensure they can release his eventual replacement. Like how so many products are designed to fail eventually to force you to buy a newer model.

I suspect his aging is a failsafe. They couldn't guarantee that successful adult compound V subjects will age because Soldier Boy and Stormfront were seemingly immortal and with Kimiko's healing factor she may be too and they were all adults given V.

Whereas those who were given it as babies not only had a much higher success rate but they age.

So perhaps when crafting Homelander they decided to make sure he aged like normal.

homelanders development is like a person aging,

in season 1 he is a toddler, getting breastfed and jealous of the baby.
in season 2 he is a teenager, and edgy one as seen when he gets le nazi goth gf and crushes a guys head while having secks with her
in season 3 he is an adult, trying to raise his son, getting more mature, etc
in season 4 he is a middle aged man who is getting older
who knows what season 5 will offer? probably old man phase.

Successful adult Compound V tests-subjects tend to age way slower than normal.
Perhaps Homelander is going to experiment with additional V-injections before the end of the season?

If you've seen Gen V, this is isn't a new concept. In Gen V, they explored the reality of Supes' bodies becoming weaker as they age and being destroyed by their powers or the instability of it at least. Polarity is shown to have developed Brain tumors due to the compound V in his body. Homelander may be going down a similar route.

Which is funny, because I always thought Butcher and Homelander's journey has always been a parallel. Both in search of love and acceptance by the people around them.

I think slow aging is just another super power you could get when taking V. It is also probably on a spectrum, like durability. Some have lots of it, some have a little of it.

aging has to be the worst thing to happen to everyone around Homelander, he controls practically everyone and gets whatever he wants, but he cannot control his biology. I wonder how a narcissistic psychopath handles the fact that they might not be the big boss regardless of how hard they try one day.
