My husband had a negative blood test for Celiac (anti-TTg-IgA), negative for IgA deficiency, was *overweight, * had chronic diarrhea, acid reflux, vitamin D deficiency, swollen joints, hot flashes, asthma, and then "random vomiting" since 2011... the list goes on. He went gluten free, and a whole bunch of his issues resolved. He then ate gluten again after a few months and his random vomiting started up again. After a year-and-a-half of waiting (yay Canada), he got a biopsy (while still gluten free), and it was normal (which is expected). Then he started eating gluten again (many of his other issues came back), got another biopsy, and it showed about Marsh I or II (inflammation in the duodenum, but the villi still intact). His gastroenterologist was confident that it's Celiac Disease. Just recently, he took Rifaxmin (non-systemic antibiotic) and his vomiting completely stopped. So what was going on was he has Celiac Disease, which then caused SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). The symptoms for both of them overlap. But Celiac can *cause* small intestine bacterial overgrowth. The doctor in this video is more helpful than most, but doctors need to get their heads around the fact that not everybody is a "classic" Celiac, the blood test is not reliable, and IBS is incredibly vague (my husband was told he had "IBS" for years).

One other thing that I want to mention is that some people, like myself, *can't* get tested for Celiac Disease. The blood test is useless; it's the biopsy that will show it. I mean, I can get tested, but the wait list is so long that it's ridiculous. 4, 000-6, 000 people on a wait list for one of 9 gastroenterologists. It's about a 3 year wait. We did it with my husband, but he also got in faster (1.5 years) because his symptoms were more severe. I was eating gluten free because of cooking for my husband. Then every Sunday, when I'd eat at church (lots of gluten there), I'd get really sick. It took me weeks to figure out why. Now, without fail, I get sick when I eat it. So it's *not* just that I feel better from eating "low carb." I've done the GAPS diet for several months, and I can assure you, it's the gluten that causes me issues!
