Check out my memory course at the link above

I was on the National Geographic Show brain Games and on this show I memorized the serial numbers on dollar bills. Basically a serial number is a series of numbers and letters. So in order I to memorize the numbers I had to create picture for numbers and letter. My easy system for How to Memorize Numbers is:

5 is a star because there are 5 points on a star
10 is a fork and plate because the 1 looks like a fork and the 0 a plate
13 is mountains because the 3 if on the side it would look like twin peaks
18 is handcuffs because the 1 looks like the key and the 8 the handcuff

This is the very simple way to approach how to memorize numbers. There is a more advanced way to memorize numbers and that would be something referred to as the Major System. In this you have sounds assigned to numerals. 2 = N and 5 = L so 25 = Nail.

The point is that to memorize numbers you have to have pictures for the numbers memorized. If you enter your email at the link above you will get my pictures for numbers 1-1000 and this will make your goal of learning to memorize numbers much easier.

For this serial number test I also had to have pictures for letters memorized and here are some examples.

A = apple
B = Bee
C = Cat
D= dog
E = Elephant
F = Frog

Why would you want to learn to memorize numbers? Ideas for uses are:

Phone number memory
Give speeches or presentations from memory and remember key numbers
Remember dates or science facts with numbers in them
Remember product knowledge if it has numbers in it

Learning to memorize numbers isn't so tough. Get my pictures for numbers and learn the Major System at link below

Hi Ronnie, great clip !!, I just have a few questions:
1. What if you want to remember 100 different serial numbers/bills ? Do you really have to come up with a 100 different rooms?
2. What about long term memory? Isn't this method only useful for short term?
3. If you always use the same images for letters and numbers. How do you prevent mixing the "stories" up? So in the case of remembering a series of phone numbers. How do I make sure that a few months from now, I still know the right story and sequence for each number? (actually goes back to question 1...)
4) And I assume this method takes less time after practice? Because it takes quite some time to create a story and then link back the story with numbers.
5) Would you advice to create images from number 0 to 100? or only 0 to 20? Or does that depend on how many number I want to remember?
Thanks!!

I remember numbers by picturing groups of 3 or 4 numbers. You can picture the shape of numbers like this without objects by sensing how the next number of the group relates to the previous one. For example is it the same number or in sequence, do they add up to 10 or close to it, are they equal distance in from each end of 0-9, do you know these numbers as a year or date, a phone number or similar to another number you use. Its really anything you think about when you see the sequence of numbers, including visualizing the very number you are remembering in the way that you view it and noticing how its written. Also I do a preliminary recollection run and remember any corrections I need to make then its all locked in. With this method I can recall a sequence well over 100 numbers.

Ron, why didnt you associate pictures for 1-9 using the sounds of each number in the major system. You did pencil for 1. Why not something with the Tuh sound?

Hey Ron, I really admire your memory techniques and the way you convert words into images, that's awesome but here i have a question. why don't we use our room's furniture instead of using igloo, hat & mountains? cuz I have been using your room furniture method. thx.

Hi Ron, thanks for the informative Video!
I watched your video on how to memorize dates where you refer to this video when it comes to remembering year dates, but I am still not sure how to do it. E.g. how would you remember that Stuart Mill has lived from 1806-1873 (remembering the name linked to those two year dates). Thanks in advance!

Quick question, can you assign all 26 letters to a picture and then assign numbers 1-26 to the same pictures. This would also technically assign each number to each letter but idk if there’s a reason to not do this

I don't want to compete. I just want to memorize random numbers that I need to know for school or everyday life (phone numbers, credit cards, birth dates, etc.) Is learning the Major system really necessary or is it better to assign pictures in the way that you mention above in this video? How do you feel about the Dominic System?
