For 0-9 I would recommend the way Kevin trudeau taught it with the body list:
1 Toes
2 Knees
3 Muscle (thigh)
4 Rear
5 Lovehandles
6 Shoulders
7 Collar
8 Face
9 Point (The point of your head/crown of your head/or maybe it was just point to your head lol)
0 Ceiling

Learned this from Harry Lorayne. It's a very useful system. Also, you can use your hand to learn 1 - 5.

I like this. Pictures with action are the key. 1. Peg ( a place to put info.. body/palace) 2. Turn INFO into a PICTURE 3. ACTION make the picture stick to the peg with vivid action using all senses, exaggeration and emotion. It takes practice but is more fun than rote memory.

Good vid but one potentially confusing bit - as written, both the 6 and 7 seem to stand for "ch." Obviously the hastily scrawled letters for the 7 are meant to be "ck" but unfortunately looks identical to the "ch" above it and the letters "ck" are never said aloud which otherwise should've cleared it up for those inclined to be easily confused.

My approach to memorizing numbers (on humanbenchmark) was always:

Verbalizing the last 4-7 digits and repeating them in stable loop.

Memorizing the remaining digits visually while constantly repeating the verbalized loop.

If your loop is stable from the beginning, the amount of remaining digits is easier to memorize by only looking at it.

That got my personal highscore to 14 digits.
At least thats something.

Why these sounds and not others?

I heard a great one from someone for helping to remember 2=N the other day, by the way: Noah took animals on the ark in pairs. I guess you have to know that one from childhood or otherwise, but I thought it was a brilliant, "instantly-memorable" solution for those who already have that story burned into their brains.

Nelson which combination of techniques did you use when you memorized 10, 000 digits of pi? Was it this me the memory palace? Or did you do something else?

So do you associate the numbers with different things every time you try and memorize something different?

Deck a cards I make one association for each suit/number.

But when I want to remember something different, I change the association to each number based on the sound?
