Can you 3D Scan Through Glass?

Layers of glass conceal a hidden figure in Lawrence Argent's 'C'era Una Volta.' How would you 3D scan something as reflective as glass with a model displayed inside? 🤔

I used the LiDAR and Photo modes in @polycam6558, but I want to hear how you think it could be done!

Thanks for watching and have fun scanning!

Lidar will only result in surface mapping, camera is the correct way to go with this. If you want to map what's inside you might have better luck moving in closer to the cylinder takes up most of the frame. You basically need to trick what it's focusing on as an object, you want what's inside the cylinder, not the silhouette of the cylinder itself. Another way, would be to alter the mapping footage to have a consistent blue around the whole subject, but I think polycam requires it to be live?

I dont know that its actually possible to scan that and end up with a nice 3d model. The sculpture in the negative volume, is "real" of course because its made from resin blocks but the shape is also just an optical illusion in a way.

Is it lit up at night & if not, could you light her up yourself? Maybe that would help? Or maybe you have to be really close up?
Technology these days is SO fn cool, what a fascinating channel. It was an interesting experiment for sure.

You can use your photos you used for the scan in the LUMA app as well instead of having to recapture

It looks like it has some kind of intake in the top. Could it be filled with water so it temporarily fills and gives a different view of the negative space?

its transparent anything with light with light is out, that weird pokeing robot would probably work assuming all the detail to make the inner image is on the surface of the sculpture if not 🤷‍♂️ theres no fuckin way

I think if you had a lot of light shining through, you might be able to pick up some of those details

Best way to do it is make it yourself, use a 3d model and cut it out of a 3d shape.
