Using the Group Policy Editor
Go to Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update / Windows Update for Business.

Double-click on "Select the target feature update version".

Enable policy and Type 21H1

Check Windows 10 release information for latest versions and change polices accordingly.

how do i stop windows 11 from updating
Using the Registry
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate.

change or create Dword "TargetReleaseVersion" to 1

change or create String Value "TargetReleaseVersionInfo" to 21H1

I wonder why 11 is desribed as an 'update'? The destruction of the taskbar alone makes it a downgrade for me!

I wish Windows made a simple option to block Windows 11 specifically, or just any "optional" update (it doesn't feel optional considering it's constantly pestering me to restart my device to install Windows 11 even though I've already reverted back from it).
I still want other updates, just not Windows 11 specifically

You would think Microsoft would have learned this lesson with all the class action lawsuits that happened with Windows 7. One night you would go to bed with Windows 7, you would wake up the next day and have Windows 10. Without your consent, without your approval, and without your permission. I've maintained a Windows 7 laptop, and I constantly had to do research to find out which were the updates that you needed to block and or not install. It was so annoying. It was a four-year long battle.

Fabulous step by step tutorial. I watched once and then went back and watched again (pausing video at each step and following instructions). Worked perfectly on 2 Windows Home desktops and 1 Windows Pro laptop. Kudos for a great tutorial.

Thank you, idk why it has to be so complicated. I should just be able to cancel the upgrade by clicking one button

Cheers mate!
Worked a treat... I had windows 10 version 20H2, so I set my 'TargetReleaseVersionInfo' value to 21H2 (which was released around November last year), its installing right now. Thanks for the really clear instructional vid, I almost felt confident messing with my computers brain.
(side note) Computer updated, all worked well, with no annoying 'upgrade to windows 11' propaganda I can now get back to work.
You're a legend...thanks. 😄

very helpful, liked for future reference.
I have both Home and Pro, still using 20H2 on the Pro one.

Nice. I wish I knew this a long time ago! There have been a few feature updates I would have blocked

Updates are supposed to be good things. They are supposed to fix issues, and bring new (properly working) features. Microsoft has effed this up so bad, that a tutorial to block updates has almost 7K views in less than 24 hours.
