How to Upgrade Hard Disk on PS3 Fat, PS3 Slim & PS3 Super Slim + Firmware Update

I'm upgrading / replacing my PS3 HDD and I'm also reinstalling PlayStation OS / Operating System. If you wonder how to replace / upgrade your PS3, PS3 Slim or PS3 Super Slim Hard Disk and reinstall its operating system / firmware, this is how I've done it.

You can replace your old Hard Disk Drive with a Solid State Drive / SSD, this will also improve PlayStation 3 performance.

I have two different versions of PS3 Fat, a PS3 Slim and a PS3 Super Slim.
Required tools are one phillips screwdriver, one USB flash drive and one PC or Mac with internet connection.

After upgrading PlayStation 3 Hard Disk, the console needs a firmware update, this is shown at 7:31.

Is it possible to clone the original drive on a pc so that you dont lose all your data? Also is there a max size hdd/ssd that the ps3 WONT recognise?

Anyone else find the PS3 doesn't recognize the update? I have it in /PS3/UPDATE/ - just tells me no data found. It's certainly labelled as 4.90, which is what the system is asking for.

You actually do need a flash drive to change the HDD on yhe fat models.
