This method is for those who already own an M.2 SATA SSD, for example after upgrading your laptop, or maybe you've found a better deal on an NGFF SSD than on a regular 2.5" one. The main idea is to highlight the upgrade options. Many people mention that they have spare M.2 NGFF SSDs after upgrading their laptops, and they didn’t even know that adapters for these exist.
By the way, there are two types of M.2 drives: NVMe (PCI Express) with an M key, and NGFF (SATA) with B or B+M keys. These adapters only exist for NGFF SSDs, and I’m pretty sure they will never exist for NVMe ones. There’s no difference in speed between NGFF SSDs and 2.5" SSDs—they are essentially the same drives with different form factors.

I have the same question others have asked.What's the benefit of buying an M.2 ssd plus the adapter over simply getting a cheaper 2.5" SATA ssd? Either way the SATA interface is going to result in the response speed, right?

Thanks, did not know there were such an adapter for M2 Sata SSD. That said, this solution does not make much sense as it is not faster then a regular 2.5 in. SSD and the cost of the nvme is much higher plus the need for an adapter and assembly. I don't think many people have M.2 drive hanging around.

what is the purpose of installing m.2 as long as connected to a SATA port? it will give you SATA III speed 530 m/s maximum and not exceed it? it does not make any ff sense

Can we do this thing: for m.2 sata to work in optical drive: we put m.2 sata SSD into its adapter, now it becomes 7mm, now we put into caddy( caddy for 2.5" SSD) so that it becomes 9.5 mm and now it can easily go in the optical drive of laptops( generally 9.5 mm)...can we do this kr there might be some problem?...

Plz clear one thing: what you did was: thickness of m.2 caddys/adapters is 7mm so we can't put them in optical drive of Dell Inspiron laptops as thickness of that is minimum 9.5 mm so we would be requiring spacer(filler) and that's why most people show only 2.5" SSD on Dell inspiron laptops, so what you did was placed m.2 as with adapter(7mm) into the internal hdd as internal hdd 2.5" is also 7mm....Am I right?

Awesome. I do have a ACER laptop that doesn't have the conector (plug) for the SSD, it has just the pins in the motherboard. Do you think if can be possible to install the conector without damage the motherboard?

My laptop has 4 slots for M.2 NGFF. So does the M.2 have to be NGFF specific? Or can I go with a M.2 NVMe? If not is the an adapter that can be bought? Thank You

Ok so on my brand new Asus Q536FD I have 256 ssd speed is over 500. Do you think if I get this adapter and buy pcie card, can I bump it to 1000mb/s ? Or since it's not pcie port it will run at same speed as ssd was
