If you have been struggling to get hired, it's possible that you have not been doing a good enough job of building rapport with your interviewer. Building rapport with your interviewer is the key to getting them to like you, trust you, and eventually hire you. Rapport building is the key to getting hired for any job. If you do not build rapport, no amount of experience will compel interviewers to offer you the job. You must build rapport with your interviewer to show them that you are like them, and only then do you have any chance of landing the job.

Listen to this man. I was having trouble finding a job. I took the time to carefully listen to his advice, and I was finally able to cross the finish line. After three interviews mind you. Thank you Don. I feel like I owe you a beer, or dinner at least.

Well Don, had a really good interview and I didn't ask for the job directly, I was too embarrassed and thought I may make the interviewer feel uncomfortable. So I said
"Some of your candidates may leave their interview undecided whether they would want this position, but after meeting you and your staff and learning more about this position I would really love this job, thank you"
I'll let you know the outcome.
Thank you so much for your videos. They have been immensely helpful. Jannette, England UK

Valuable, valuable, advice! I've been hired on many jobs that I lacked the experience for but was hired anyway because of this topic!

this is great advice. when I was younger I had no idea about matching energy, I actually saw an interviewer write down "smiles/laughs a lot" which I thought was good but....no, I didn't get hired. When I started matching tone/demeanor/energy, I was getting hired fairly quickly. the dating side of this advice is great too!

Excellent video. I had an interview last week, and not one minute after we sat down, the GM I was meeting with said "I've read your resume, I know what you can do. Basically I want to see if I want to work 45-50 hours a week with you." That seriously threw me off guard. Your key points here are important, and I am sure I didn't get the job because I was way more excited than he seemed to be. I'll keep your points in mind next time.

I'm 2nd☘...I Win!💥😎👍
This is Fact...Rapport is Very important...sad but True. Rapport can mean more sometimes than Resume!?🙃Cuz we're human & are emotional. The last job I got bcuz I built a rapport w/1 of the interviewers, who had similar interests & background in the field as me & they had interview like 50 people & I was the last interviewed.👍

I’d love to see a video on 100% virtual interviews. How to stand out? Any tips? I feel I do SO well in-person and it’s hard to translate over the screens/phone only.

I got second round interview from one global financial player recently. I really thought I got the job. But I was told by their HR that they need strong technical background professional. Of course, it is not true reason due to the fact that I have worked there as line manager some years ago. I think the 2nd interviewer didn’t like me and that is it.

Have you thought about giving dating advice? 😆

Joking aside, your advice is very helpful. I watched some of your videos about 6 months ago and ended up landing a job in a field I had literally no experience in, that pays almost 50% more than my previous job.

Now I’m back for some refreshers as I’m going to be interviewing for a supervisor position tomorrow. I will be fine with whatever the outcome since I’m still relatively new to the job, but I think I will be a serious contender. If not this time, I think I will be setting myself for the promotion next time it opens up. Cheers, Don.

What a shock the calm and quietly speaking employer must be when the new employee shows up at work on the first day and actually speaks loudly and dominant. 😅

I wish I had asked for a job a recently missed. I had built an amazing amount of rapport, I had 4 interviews and was 1 of 2 final candidates - had I asked for it, I'm pretty sure that I'd be working there now! This is a very bold move, no doubt, but if you've built a strong rapport, you can pull it off - at least, I think 😀
