When most of us think of depression, we often think of major depressive disorder (MDD), where depression symptoms occur in episodes ranging from weeks to months. However, did you know that depression can persist for longer periods of time, where symptoms last over the course of two or more years without any relief at all? Chronic depression is also known as persistent depressive disorder or PDD, and is defined by a continuous depressed mood that occurs for at least two years. In today’s video, we will address the signs and symptoms of chronic depression.

Psilocybin containing mushrooms saved my life. The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit. It has also helped me survive depression.

I was diagnosed with chronic major depression since I was a child and I can say in my personal experience that medication (and therapy) saved my life. My doctors told me that my depression was most likely genetic considering I was showing signs since infancy which was very validating for me since my family blamed my chronic depression on being “ungrateful” for having a good life (which of course only added to my depression because I didn’t have a “legitimate” reason for feeling sad and hurt all the time). My antidepressants make me feel like when I wake up from a bad nightmare and I can remember the pain from my dream but it doesn’t hurt nearly as much as in the actual nightmare if that makes sense. So I am a huge advocate of medication, although I do understand the hesitation and fear of being dependent on drugs for the long term.

Hey was the first thought in my mind “is that Shane from stardew?” I play it a lot during the summer cause I like a nice farm sim
But hopefully for everyone who is suffering find help and gets better like Shane did (after 6 hearts he gets a therapist and tries getting better)

I was diagnosed with chronic depression many years ago. This video describes it very well. Having a persistent low mood everyday, experiencing episodes of more severe depression, low energy, everything feels like a big chore, my previous interests no longer make me feel good. I wake up most days feeling dread. The day ahead is like an uphill battle. My close friend keeps me going though.

I have grown up with depression episodes every year. I used to have traumatic events during childhood each year such as bullying, loss of loved ones and physical/psychological abuse+extreme neglect and emotional abandonment.

The big traumatic events stopped when I was a teenager but I had already developed depression and other disorders (social anxiety and agoraphobia)

Now I'm 20 years old, and I am struggling with CPTSD, dissociation and depression. I have a lot of borderline personality traits and what makes me feel the most deceived and frustrated is depression.

It never goes away completely, I am starting to believe that I won't ever experience life without depressive symptoms.

Even if you avoid depression, it comes back to your life because you are not confident in any situation. In either way, we should help eachother to avoid depression / stress.

I was diagnosed with Chronic Depression earlier this year and I think having a name to put to the emptiness I felt gave me a little relief despite it's prevalence.

Thank you much for this. I've been experiencing a lingering sense of depression for over 10 years, but because it wasnt MDD I just carried on without getting help. Now I know that there's a name for what I feel. Thank you.

I suffered from chronic depression for about 12 years, it wasn’t until last year when I finally got diagnosed and got the medication I needed. It really is strange though, i truly can’t recall when my depression first began despite knowing why, it feels like it’s always been a part of my life. I’m glad that part of my life is over though and I’m thankful you are spreading awareness for this.

I've been at varying levels of depression and anxiety for 30 years now... I am 43. No amount of medication or talk therapy helps. I have made myself comfortable with that fact and take medication to relieve the physical symptoms. A lot of these comments resonate with me, especially those stating they feel no join in joyous occasions. I fake it for everyone else. Life has become me wearing a mask living a big lie. My joy comes from bringing joy to others... even if my emotions in a circumstance aren't real.

I’ve had PDD since early childhood and I struggle daily with the challenges it brings.

I really appreciate your videos. They shine a light on mental health issues I probably wouldn’t have the courage to question on my own.

I love your channel, and everyone in the comment sections.

I have been diagnosed with PDD recently. Thanks for making this video. It feels a bit better when there are people or organisations who are constantly trying to support and reach out.
