Pope Benedict XVI, who died on New Year's Eve 2022, led the Church in a clear and unmistakable direction. In his own words, he explained that his task was "to make the light of Christ shine before men and women of the world," not his own light "but that of Christ."

In this 2008 documentary broadcast on EWTN to coincide with his visit to the United States that year, German philosopher Raphaela Schmid and Rome correspondent for the National Catholic Register Edward Pentin produced this overview of Benedict's life and the principal teaching themes of his Pontificate. The documentary reveals his unique approach for guiding the people of God in truth and love and includes interviews with key Church leaders and Vatican experts.
