Why Catholics Have a Pope

Fr. Mike goes all the way back to Genesis to explain why Catholics have a pope. God established the kingdom of Israel with the twelve sons of Jacob. Centuries later, he appointed David as the king who would unite this kingdom. Centuries after that kingdom was divided, Jesus established a new kingdom by appointing the twelve apostles.

To unite this new kingdom, which is the Church, he appointed Peter as his vicar here on earth. Jesus is the king, but he gave the keys of the kingdom to Peter. This means Peter and his successors play the role of the “prime minister”, or the right-hand-man, or the steward of the king while Jesus is gone.

The papacy may be a divisive topic today, but clearly God gave his Church a pope as a sign of unity for all who are a part of the new kingdom Christ established.

Saint Peter was the lowest and hard headed out of all of them and yes he denied Christ not once but 3 times and yet Christ still had faith in him. Beautiful story and it only goes to show Christ always picks the weakest ones and those who are struggling with themselves especially the poor. God Bless Saint Peter as well as the other Saints.

When a priest explains the "church" it makes perfect sense because it's supposed to ... when a protestant explains the "church" it is very personalized based on their own understanding which results in a whole lot of different logics.(IE just stop and think about how many branches of Protestantism there is)

I love hearing things laid out so effortlessly and traditionally and biblically true. And the only way that is possible is through the Universal Church founded and began by our Head and Lord Jesus Christ.

I have recently subscribed to this channel. I was raised Protestant and was even a pastor in a Baptist church. I have since "fallen away from the faith" - maybe the current term is "deconstructing". I am feeling strong leanings to the Catholic church and am beginning to devote more to understanding how I can become catholic. So much I don't know, even having grown up "religious". If one understands the Davidic Kingdom, understanding the Papacy is not difficult. The office of the Papacy is simply akin to the office of steward. Jesus, as the Son of David, establishes his Church in accordance with the Davidic Kingdom.
