What is a Warlock in dungeons and dragons?

I saw a post that basically said "Clerics are just warlocks whose patrons are verified on twittee" and that always stuck with me

Celestial Warlock: "Yes."
Cleric: "No."

The interesting thing about a Warlock keeping their power is because their Patron puts a piece of magic inside them. This technically makes Warlocks the same as Sorcerers, however they use that power with knowledge of the Arcane rather than just using their will to use the power.

So, Warlocks download their spells, and Clerics stream theirs from the cloud(s)...

The way I see it, a Warlock patron *can* be a god, but does not necessarily *have* to be one.

And that's why I play warlocks whenever I can.

It' be interesting to see a cleric of a deity working alongside a warlock who made a pact with the same deity. Or a dual-class cleric/warlock the same way.

Best part is pacts are entirely up to the patron so not all warlocks are required to do the same task even under the same patron.

This is a thing most people seem to get wrong. The book says the relationship of a warlock and
it's patron is like that a wizard and it's teacher, not a cleric and it's god warlock's use arcane magic, the patron gave them forbidden knowledge

As a DM, I love my players who play Warlock. It gives me a reason to send them on dangerous (sometimes) and seemingly bizarre quests all in the name of their patron. It also gives me a thematic way to explain their player having to miss a session.

Warlocks are really Ill defined in DnD most times, this does clear up alot of stuff though

Soo im a dm and one of my things is the warlock body is tampered with to resemble the deity

I have two ideas on a visualization when a Warlock casts a spell using a Warlock Spell Slot.
1) a magical aura surrounds them taking the general shape of their Patron.
2) a ghost-like apparition appears slightly behind and above them similar to the Persona games.
