I'm a Katrina survivor - after 20 yrs, FEMA has barely gotten its act together, my suggestion to every US Citizen in a storm zone:
(1) DO NOT trust the Gov to save you - you are on your own ! (this is rule # 1)
(2) DO NOT trust your insurance Co, carry copies of your policy and photograph everything BEFORE leaving
(3) make copies of your ID's/medical cards and keep a copy in every suitcase or pack ~ you might lose everything you carry
(4) carry paper money - and keep a 3month (to full yr) supply of food and water ~the Gov '3-day supply suggestion' is a ludicrous joke
(5) keep several weeks of supplies in your vehicle at all times ~ preps at home are useless if you aren't there.
(6) keep your sanity, show kindness to others, help the community ~ again, DO NOT trust the state or Fed gov to save you.
(7) if you choose to hunker down, board up and be aware how high flood waters can reach - if you have a basement apt, LEAVE IT - 20ft walls of water are common. DO NOT pullout your phone to take videos when others are in danger = HELP THEM, and don't be stupid.
(8) one car accident can block an entire freeway - and artery escape routes - have a plan B, C and D.
(9) your life and others are more important that personal possessions and valuable ! keep a level head and recognize danger when you are in it.
(10) I can't stress this enough, the topmost lesson I learned during and years after is that you CANNOT TRUST police, State or Federal Gov to save or help you... they are NOT your friends, they only care about continuation of Gov (their hold on power) not your well being or existence.
Do what you can to aid yourself and others, a rescue party may never come if you don't help yourself. ~ sad, but true.

I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, and this is the first time Tampa will be getting a direct hit! We’re going to be seeing some unimaginable devastation! Something we’ve never seen! We are in a mandatory evacuation zone so we are evacuating to Perry Florida tomorrow. I am praying for us all right now!🙏❤️

After Katrina and Gustav, all the insurance companies pulled out of Louisiana!! Since then we have eveert part of the State hit by a major hurricane. We have seen 6 hurricanes in the last 5 years!!
I wish had the funds to move out if the State! God help the people of Florida.

Lord, we come before you and make an appeal for mercy on Florida. We come in agreement and decree against every force that is empowering this storm called Milton in the Gulf of Mexico! We ask for a sheering wind from the north to disrupt this storm and cause it to diminish to a minimal storm before it lands! We cry out to you for help from all contrary and destructive winds, waves and rain in central and south Florida in Jesus name! We ask for preservation, provision, protection and refuge from this storm for those seeking your help in this season! Lord, put your finger in the eye of Hurricane Milton! We speak Peace Be Still to Milton in Jesus name and ask for grace and wisdom and divine reversals to come to all those in its path in this time of great need of the help from heaven in Jesus name! Let Angels on Assignment and Ministries of Mercy be loosed to help each one crying out to you in this hour! Amen

A cat 4 or cat 3 does not make a difference....they are both deadly. Katrina was a cat 5 but hit as a cat 3...but the destruction was unbelievable!!! So sad. So much destruction for the country.

Storm is currently going through eyewall replacement cycles.

We'll see how that affects the size and intensity tomorrow morning.

A larger windfield could spell a storm more resistant to the wind shear.

I still have a back procedure scheduled for 6:30 am in Lake Mary n of Orlando on Wednesday morning before I can pack up mom and get out of central FL. Really have a foreboding feeling about this storm. Probably due to the horrid relationship I had with my father, Milton.
