Senator Birdwell, I thank God that He preserved you! I did not know who you were at the time, but I was one of the medical personnel who treated you, and I arranged your evacuation to the hospital that morning. I worried for years thinking of the specific things that I knew I could have done better to help you, but I was frantically calling everywhere trying to find an ambulance to evacuate you and another casualty. I worried for years that I had contributed to your death, by not doing better. Then in 2016 or 2017, your General Officer and I attended the same church near Fort Bragg. I spoke to him about the day and he mentioned you and your life afterwards. What a weight off my shoulders! May God continue to bless you and your family, my brother in Christ!
