The engineers always seem to get forgotten about in retellings of the disaster, but they were arguably the most heroic. They stayed in the engine room knowing they were going to die to keep the lights on as long as they could.

0:09 I love how Cameron tried to be faithful as much as possible to survivors' accounts. A lot of them during their testimony told that they heard a rumbling sound when the lights went off.

0:11 can you imagine hearing that when the lights go out? Just hearing the metal bend like that still gives me chills today

I bet it was this scene alone that won Titanic the Oscar for best visual effects.. incredible that this was done in 1997!

Can we just appreciate how realistic 0:23 is how the windows explode as the walls bend. Everything about this scene is so detailed compared to most modern movies. Also look close on the left hand side at 0:16 you can see how the steel plates on the hull and promenade railing bend like clay and the portholes exploding. The amount of power involved here is crazy.

Can you imagine the horror of watching this from one of the lifeboats? Terrifying.

For the 90s the effects in this scene are incredible. The shot of the lounge just being completely crushed and split in two is complete genius.

0:13 I've seen this movie a million times but only recently I noticed how the metal is deforming in this scene. This movie is incredible. The attention to detail is unmatched.

Imagine being on the Titanic, you fall off the ship, you’re now behind the stern, then you hear weird noises, you look up, and see the gigantic stern, falling. Scary, huh?

Can't imagine how horrific was the moment when lights went out. On reality it was even darker than what we see on the film. Poor people that had to go through this. Rip all the victims.

0:20 for anyone potentially confused as to why Lovejoy looks all messed up, there’s a deleted scene where Cal sends him after Jack and Rose and he and Jack have a fight.

This would be my worst nightmare. Pitch black in the middle of the ocean, the ship moaning as the lights go out and everyone screaming. God I can’t even imagine how scared they must have been

The sound effects are amazing.
From the groaning of the ship which almost makes it sound like it's wailing in pain, the cracking and the wood and metal crash just makes up for a winner for the best sound Oscar.
