This man wasn’t even an actor; he was a real life oceanographer who James Cameron worked with! I always thought he was a great comedic relief for the film

This was brilliant to include for two reasons:
1. We, the viewers, understand what is happening after the ship hits the iceberg.
2. I love how he is emotional later when Rose describes the sinking and its aftermath.

I always thought this scene was genius because Cameron conveyed multiple things here. First, we get to understand exactly what we are watching so that when the sinking starts (why is the ass of the ship sticking out like that? etc) we have the context of the various aspects. Also, he is conveying how the dive crew regarded the Titanic as a cool treasure hunt to be laughing and smoking cigars at. It's only when Rose tells her tale that they realize that Titanic is in fact a human tragedy in which thousands of people with hopes and dreams died in the most horrific way possible. The tone of the crew is that of reverence for the story by the end of the movie.

I remember this simulation very well and how callous he was and how "cool" he thought the simulation was. It was such a HUGE contrast when we all see the utter horror of the actual sinking!

0:29 – I bet Rose can still hear the screaming of passengers on Titanic, while watching this simulation

"Until, finally, she's got her whole ass is sticking up in the air, ...and that's a BIG ass. We're talking 20, 30 thousand tons!" This scene was always a great comedic relief to keep people on their toes with a historical incident needing entertainment value to keep people interested in the movie. I remember his shirt with "Smiley Joe", who was a popular thing at that time.

Imagine showing a survivor of the 9/11 attacks an animation of the towers getting hit by the planes and falling, then finishing it with "pretty cool, huh?😃"

Just like Romeo and Juliet. Hes not only telling us. He’s showing us what’s going to happen. Nothing we can do to stop it.

at 0:18, there was water already into compartment 5, in actuality, there was a tear inside the coal bunker for boiler room five, and the coal bunker was not meant to be watertight.
