Now that I am into my 2025 goal of a no buy year, I find myself editing my wardrobe rather than doing a complete declutter. I have a very organized closet and I always put my clothes away. A new strategy that I started using in order to keep to my goal is to look at catalogs that I get from various clothing companies and look at the retailer's websites that I previously made many purchases from and those that I wish I could afford. What I am discovering is that I already have some of the same or similar styles in my wardrobe. This gives me the encouragement to recreate outfits with the items I already have. Hence, I forgo making any new purchases. Thanks for your continued inspiration.

I have a Pinterest board where I pin clothes I "already have" but are styled in a way I hadn't previously thought of, but love. It has been invaluable.

Thank you @AlyssaBeltempo for this video. I think it's so important to stress that decluttering is NOT sustainable unless you just buy less

Excellent tips, Alyssa. I reset my living area every night before bed. It's always tidy for the next day 😊 My mum did it all of her life. I now follow in her footsteps. It starts my day on a positive 💗
I'm not a huge declutter type person, as I happily hold onto my clothing and footwear regardless of trends. I wear what makes me feel good and take good care of what I have. Thank you for your amazing content 💗

I like this thoughtful approach to decluttering and how it can help to reimagine our wardrobe. One of the things I struggle with is weight gain and holding on to past clothing items I love. I’ve given away the smallest items, and will continue to purge and only keep items within one size of my current weight. The best advice I once received is to dress the body you have for the life you’re living right now. This has helped me to enjoy dressing the person I am now which contributes to how I feel about myself overall.

As a non-buyer I found myself buying a jumpsuit in 3 minutes in the shop; and wore it all days in the last week.... sometimes ad hoc purchases are just the right thing to 🤩

I really like the idea of a wish list or waiting period. I’ve found that when I give myself even a few hours I’ve often forget what it was that I was looking at before.
Another thing I’ve been applying is how long I have to work to afford X item. When I break it down that way I’m like, mmmm I don’t need this that much lol. Thanks Alyssa for the great advice.

I have a wish vs need list. For example, the only needs for footwear for 2025 are rainboots and runners (my only once a year purchase). My big waredrobe gap was in sweaters. Now that I knit, the patterns go on a wish list for at least 2 months, then the yarn takes up to 6 months to find (if I don't have it), and another 1 to 2 months to knit up. Custom made to my colours and fit. Slow fashion!

I deeply appreciate this video. You do what most other stylists won’t do, advocate decluttering and styling with what you have on hand. Thank-you so much.

I'm going to try setting my "maybe items" aside rather than keeping them mixed-in with my closet. I think that will be really helpful!

I have learned so much from you regarding loving my clothes, pausing before purchasing, and thinking about sustainability. I now put a lot of thought into making purchases, and I’m happier with my closet! Thank you❤

Thank you once again. You are truly a great storyteller and a wise advisor. My grandmother taught me to always tidy up my surroundings because you never know what might happen overnight. I always air out my clothes before putting them back in the closet/drawer, but I always make sure to return them to their proper places. Thank you!

Your way of being and the energy you exude in your vlogs is so inspiring. I really enjoy how you present yourself and all the great information you provide. It's helping me to redefine what I really need and how to adapt a more "slow fashion" approach to my wardrobe. I too love the room reset and I've been practicing that for many years. I love waking up in the morning without the feeling of unfinished business remaining from the day before. I'm looking forward to the next Shop Your Closet session. Thanks for doing what you do!

James Clear's book is one that I read every January! I find it a great way to reset for the new year...far more effective than New Year's resolutions. I try and reset the kitchen before I head to bed to make the morning more relaxing and calm. I love the idea of applying it to my clothes!

I have a tiny (like 2' x 4' tiny) reach in closet and your "maybe " clothes rail has inspired me to look for a small one for myself. As a fellow always-editing person I think having that bit of physical separation will really help me.

I really love your videos. I find myself having the problem of some weight fluctuation. sometimes I keep three sizes and wear them within one year. I made progress so the cloth fit me now and I am quite proud of it, but it makes decluttering a living hell. As a mid to plus size 18 I nearly cant by cheaper cloths or second hand, as I often make the experience that more expensive brands like boden or sezanne have a better fit to them. So I have a hard time giving them away as they have been expensive. I canceld wearing patterns and go for monochromatic outfits to make my cloth last longer. but I still have a hard time to style my moodswings :) I also dont have a big basement to just store them, and a longtime storage is not an easy topic. thank you for making real content and toughtfull videos. I will take the advice of setting the room for curating my spring wardrobe.
