Weed Killing The Easy Way - Silage Tarp

Показать описание
Silage tarps help control weeds by creating an environment that suppresses their growth through a process called occultation. When you cover the soil with a silage tarp, typically a thick, opaque plastic sheet, it blocks sunlight from reaching the weeds and their seeds. Without light, photosynthesis can't occur, so existing weeds die off. The tarp also traps heat and moisture underneath, which can speed up the decomposition of weed seeds and plant material while encouraging some seeds to sprout early—only to perish in the dark, oxygen-limited conditions. Over time, usually a few weeks to a couple of months depending on the season and weed pressure, this method effectively reduces the weed seed bank in the soil. It’s a low-effort, chemical-free approach that works well for preparing garden beds or fields, especially in no-till farming systems, since it avoids disturbing the soil and bringing new weed seeds to the surface. The tarp can be moved and reused elsewhere once the job’s done, making it a practical tool for ongoing weed management.
