I’m an environmental scientist. Here’s an explanation. The first one - the selective - that didn’t work takes about 6 weeks to show results. It uses a synthetic auxin to encourage the weeds to basically grow faster than they naturally would, they run out of nutrients and die. The hormone it replicates only works on certain dicots and since grass is a monocot with a different evolutionary lineage the hormone does nothing to it.

Roundup is a systemic total kill. It also takes a while but it will kill the roots of the plants when applied at the right time of season.

Vinegar is a contact herbicide. It torches everything it touches but anything with deep roots or rhizomes will come back eventually.

Side note: that vinegar is literally 30% acetic acid. There’s nothing “natural” about it and you’ve been greenwashed. It can be incredibly dangerous to handle industrial acetic acid. It can ruin your eye sight, burn you, and corrode metal.

Learn your shit before you make “informative” videos bro. It’s your duty to read labels and understand how things work before you use them, let alone post videos to social media about them.

The vinegar destroyed the vascular tissue in the leaves, but did not destroy the plant roots. Repeated application will be required to weaken the plants enough to the point where they will die and not return. You still need to be careful in using agricultural vinegar because it can alter the pH of your soil. The majority of plants grow best in a narrow pH range, and it can take a long time for excess acidity to leach out of tge soil. RoundUp has to be translocated to the plant roots, that is why it's effect was not as immediately obvious; it is however very effective because it does destroy the root system. As long as there is sufficient organic matter in your soil, RoundUp will safely break down. The most obvious problem with RoundUp and similar chemicals is that "weeds" by their nature grow in impoverished soils deficient in healthy organic components. Along those lines, healthy balanced soils with sufficient organic matter also substantially slow the growth of opportunistic "weeds".

Youtube needs to have a 'misinformation' report system

"non corrosive" lmao that's 6x concentrated vinegar. That will corrode most things.

Why kill a yard full of lovely, low maintenance violets?

Those aren't weeds, those are wild violets. They grow really well in the shade.

Them things you call weeds is actually healing medicine

Real weed killers take 1-2 weeks to work. That area you sprayed with vinegar will look nice and green again in two weeks. The area sprayed with round up will kill down to the roots. Whatever didn’t die you didn’t spray lol

You have to understand that roundup takes days for it to affect you can’t just look at it 24 hours later because it takes days for it to make a change

No, don't kill these beautiful weeds! I want that ground cover and I want it to replace all my grass!

It was so beautiful before. No plant is bad or a „weed“ if its native.
How is plain grass the better option here?

This is clearly a bias advertisement. I want my time back

Systemic herbicides work better that contact herbicides but they take longer to kill the plants. If you want to kill broad leaves but not touch grasses then use 2-4-d

Best weed killer is a shovel and one’s hands to make sure the roots are pulled….Just requires sweat and maybe a massage after.

Vinegar is an acid, it's absolutely corrosive. Good findings, though!

I would be interested to know the pH of the soil after vinegar based products. Especially long term

This person doesn't understand how the different types of weed killers work. Come back a week later and then 6 weeks later and show the results.

FYI ortho weed clear contains three herbicides that mimic a hormone that regulates plant growth. Basically causing uncontrolled growth that eventually kills the plant. I would not expect to see plant death with any of the traditional herbicides after 24 hours. I would definitely use the vinegar over roundup though
