The Steam Deck’s Best Feature? You’re Not Using It.

Check some Steam Deck Accessories

Streaming games on the Steam Deck OLED turned out to be a much better experience than I expected. In this video, I explore how well Steam Remote Play actually works when you pair the Deck with a capable gaming PC and a solid Wi-Fi connection. Instead of downloading massive game files or dealing with the Deck’s hardware limitations, I tested what it’s like to just stream everything straight to the device.

I’ll walk you through how I set things up, how the gameplay feels on that beautiful OLED screen, and why this might be one of the most underrated features of the Steam Deck. Whether you’re running out of space or want to play heavier games the Deck can’t run natively, streaming might be the way to go. I also tried it using a mobile hotspot, and the results were surprisingly playable.

If you're curious about getting the most out of your Steam Deck without filling up your SSD or waiting on installs, this video covers everything you need to know about streaming games the easy way.

this is exactly my setup. I've got a 2-in-1 laptop (i7 8th gen) connected to my Aorus Gaming Box 2070 via Thunderbolt 3 and it's such a mid-ranger until I start running everything in 720p/800p + ray tracing. Can easily get 45-60 fps which is all I need

Can you try and setup apollo with moonlight and try to stream? I wanna see if you can notice the lower latency using apollo instead. It seems easy to setup based off the youtube tutorials.

Played natively on Steam Deck on day 2. Worked fine. 30fps. Resolution gets a bit low sometimes, but it's far from "unplayable". Streaming is pretty nice, though. If you can do that, it's a great option for the higher end games.

Does streaming resolve any issues with games that get a yellow icon for steam deck compatibility?

steam remote play also works if it's not on the same wifi if you toy with it enough i used to play my computer at school via my phone with it usually racing games becuase the input delay was like a quarter of a second at times i dunno how well that works now that was years ago

This is the reason I switched to PC from Xbox. Back when I has the series X, I was amazed that I was able to remotely stream my xbox to a handheld device then I found out that game streaming is a lot better in PC since you can stream above 1080p 60 fps.

Right now, I have my gaming PC in my bedroom and I use my steam deck or tab s9 to game stream using moonlight. If I want to play on the big screen, I just dock my steam deck and grab a controller to have that console like experience.

Game streaming indeed is a game changer!!

Using apollo (sunshine fork) to stream my games from my pc. Pretty amazing and better than steam remote play. Supports hdr with the use of virtual displays, high refresh rates, etc. you can also turn off your display so its not on while streaming

At this point I think I’d rather just play on the PC though. It’s pretty neat that you can still do this but yeah, I’m not fussed.

I used to do this, till I was able to find a 4090 XG Mobile on marketplace for extremely cheap ($700). I then bought an ROG Ally ($300), 74wh battery mod ($45), m.2 2230 to 2280 adapter $5), and a 4tb ssd ($125 -50 after selling my old SSD = $75). Now I have a portable gaming setup that can be docked for high-end PC performance all for $1125. Significantly better than streaming games from the desktop that I have now sold

I love streaming my games from my pc. That way I can play monster hunter on the deck, as long as I’m home at least.

Used to do this before getting a Steamdeck with my Samsung TV in the living room playing a game being rendered from the bedroom. Unfortunately, Steam Link was dropped and uninstalled by Samsung IIRC in 2023 and only found out when I tried to play a game in 2024.

I just played remake using streaming, only thing that bothers me on stream is that I need to leave my desktop monitor on, if I turn it off after a few minutes it will start lagging or even change resolution. Does this happens to you?Is there any fix?

Great video! I intend to buy steam deck, but only if it's possible to play remotely from my PC with two controllers. The point is I want to play with my wife heavy games that steam deck can't run natively, so my idea is to plug it to a TV and play remotely with two controllers using stream. If you don't mind, could you test or tell me if you've already done it before and if it works?

i think this is why valve didn't make it a spec beast. they expect users to stream a lot in the future
